I am not up on curry... I want to start and getting ready to order some from Penzeys.. Is the sweet curry a good one to start with? They have about 10 or more... I like shrimp curry and curried rice... that's about the only thing I have had.. No restaurants around here...

    Mornin' Linda,
I just took a look at the site you mentioned you were going to order from... if you are just starting out with curries i would suggest the Sweet as you mentioned and also the Tandoori on some chicken should be good and you do not have to add the hot peppers unless you really want to. Stay away from the Vindaloo, as it isn't THE hottest curry there is .. it IS super hot and.. just don't go there LOL

My husband and I cook alot of traditional Indian food here and hey! When I get moved to Florida.. come on over and we will cook for you :-)

Here is a little recipe for some Curried Potatoes you might enjoy as it has some CUMIN in it

    Curried Cumin Potatoes

2 pounds new potatoes, cut into 1/4 inch thick pieces
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 tablespoons cumin seed
    2 teaspoons ground turmeric
    2 teaspoons curry powder
2 teaspoons coarse sea salt (use what you have)
    1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Place whole potatoes into a saucepan with water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook until just tender. Drain, and cut potatoes into quarters. (I cut mine into the 1/4 size pieces and cook them that way as they cook faster and drain) Set aside to keep warm.
Heat oil in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Saute the cumin, turmeric, and curry powder for 1 minute. Add potatoes, and saute until toasted. Toss potatoes with sea salt, pepper and fresh cilantro, and serve hot.

I have more recipes if you are interested.

Hi Linda, we are still in the UK, till the 26th. Then we fly over to Tampa and a new chapter to this life begins. Still a bit of packing to do. The movers arrive the 22nd and will pack up anything we have not and move it all out on the 23rd. We should have our things in about 4-5 weeks.
