A note to all about ingredients

Don't feel badly if no one comments on your recipe or says they've tried it. You may have included ingredients impossible to find in an expats's present residence. I can't get sour cream, molasses, cheddar and innumerable items other people take for granted.
I try to give people alternatives, but sometimes there is no alternative. Cheddar is cheddar and nothing else is quite like it.

I have to concur that it is sometimes difficult to find specific ingredients that one can take for granted. At one time I couldn't find black beans but now I know a place where I can get them. The baking section of the grocery store in England is much smaller than what I was used to in the U.S. We all have to find substitutions in some cases.

Yes, I certainly miss the cheddar! Nothing else quite substitutes, particularly not in Tex-Mex food. But I've been able to find molasses in Switzerland, in the honey aisle. The Italian bit of the label proclaims it to be "Melassa da tavola." At the very least if you pop over the border you can pick some up at Migros!

POP over the border? It's 6.5 hours to Milano!

I couldn't find black in Australia either! Of all things. My parents brought some from the US, when they came to visit. I did find them in a small Indian grocery, but they are not as good.
