Im basically got everything in on my new roof garden - though its herbs and a couple of tomato plants
Anyone else have it all done or finishing it up this weekend?
    - BUT a pal of mine has offered me a small plot, though its a few towns away, I am sooo enticed, it would mean going there a couple times a week, but I could so enjoy some great cut flowers for me to grow like dahlias and such...

    anyone else?

hey pleclare - it was only five small tubs... wasn't hard effort - nothing like TP's place, which I would drool over if I had the chance!

    Diva,
Trust me, there is a lot of work that is going into that garden! Hubby is working on getting the tomatoes in now, with the peppers to follow. Normally, the garden would all be done by now, but this year is just horrible and is still too cool, if done right. One master gardener here says wait until the end of the month, because of soil temps, which this year is about right.
Our saving grace is that we always repot our plants when we bring them home, so they can be growing and are quite large when they finally go into the ground. We try to keep them warm and in sunlight, so they have good growing conditions, which is hard, when you have hundreds of plants.
Those don't include the ones that we've started from seeds! Right now, we're off to get more compost for adding to the plant holes, which are quite large. We always add compost, blood meal and bone meal to the planting holes of approx. 2 gal size. In the grand scheme of things, after several years, the soil becomes much nicer, having a much healthier texture and growing better plants.
As for the size of our garden, I think it's an odd shape but is using just about all the backyard area that we can, and we have a HUGE back yard! Hubby just measured it and it's over 4000 sq ft. He cut down an elm tree that was shading the new part of the garden and then the younge black walnut that was too close to the edge, as black walnut roots, leaves, etc. can be lethal to especially tomatoes and peppers. Walnuts are just not good to have anywhere near anything that you want growing. He also cut back some trees in the neighbor's yard, who thought the extraction really opened up her yard....nice to have cooperative neighbors!...expecially when they will be getting lots of goodies from the garden.
I still have a problem of not having enough room, after all that! I have some permanent plants, like our perenial onions and rhubarb and herbs, that need a space, where the plow won't get them and that's hard, as every available sunny space is being used.
No matter what, there is never enough room.
For those who might be thinking of making a late night visit....we let the dogs loose at sundown......... ;)
Lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, onions and potatoes are all doing nicely, all planted, mulched and well settled in!....and the peas too! Remember...the dogs come out at dark......... ;)

    Hi everyone!

I'm just planting some flowers in the front yard this week. Down here in Texas (Houston area), our garden has been planted and our tomatoes are already 6 ft. tall. We are doing good. The weather has gotten really hot this week (mid 90s), so things should really start growing/producing now. I'm excited! This is my best garden yet!!

    Take care! ~Dawn
