Chocolate Ribbon Cake

    Chocolate Ribbon Cake

I gave this recipe 5 stars on taste alone. I did not have issues with the frosting as I do not think no matter how long you beat it the frosting would never look like the pic. I will be making it again at which time I will add a little vanilla to the cake which would put it over the top good. Double the cream cheese layer so that it would cover the whole cake. It was close but there was not enough to me. Also would do a butter cream frosting. But saying that the recipe is fantastic flavour wise without the changes.

I'll have a slice for you, Manella, and take the calorie hit! ;)

Nadine, I saved the recipe after seeing your post in DIZ's birthday post. I think the problem with the frosting is the overwhelming amount of milk. Half a cup of milk to 3 C. powdered sugar would make the frosting too thin. My tried and true recipes only use a few Tablespoons, so adding the milk a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached sounds like a better plan to me. Otherwise, the cake looks super yummy!

Fantastic Find! and looks really good. Love the idea of a ribbon of cream cheese.

Interesting recipe! I think this would have to be tweaked a bit. You probably don't need to double the cream cheese, but rather thin it out with a little milk/cream and add an egg. That way it's more like cheese cake and it can pour/spread easier over the 1st layer. I've seen other ribbon cakes call to mix a can of condensed milk with the cream cheese as well.
There should be better directions for the frosting! I agree, a buttercream fudge frosting would work out better. I wonder if she forgot to add butter to the ingrd. list? Strange! At least it tasted great still! :D

Oh my gosh, how did I miss that there's no butter in the frosting?! I saw all that milk and missed the no butter part. The recipe submitter's photo looks like the frosting is chocolate buttercream, so I bet you're right, Cosmicmom, and she just forgot to include the butter in the ingredient list.
