Cranberry Hootycheeks

Is that a great name, or is that a great name? :) I made
    Cranberry Hootycreeks
    this afternoon.

The recipe gives instructions to make up the dry ingredients in a quart size jar and attach a tag with further instructions to mix it with butter, vanilla and an egg and give as a gift. I decided to make one batch straight away but also made up the jarred thing as I thought it was fun. :)

I had a bit of trouble with the recipe. I mixed up all the dry ingredients, then added the other three items. The instructions said to drop the dough by heaping spoonfuls onto a prepared baking sheet. A heaping spoonful of dough to me would imply that the dough was wet. My dough felt VERY dry and was almost falling apart. I scooped up dough and rolled it in to a fairly large ball. I thought perhaps once the heat hit it, it would soften and compact down. The cooking instructions said a 350F oven for 8-10 minutes. When I checked after 8 minutes they were no way near close to being cooked. I cooked them for another 5 minutes and they had started to brown on the bottom but were still somewhat wet on the top. I took my spatula and flattened them. LOLOL. Thinking that perhaps they would cook more evenly then. In the end I think I cooked them for about 20 minutes.

Hubby and I shared one to taste test. I think it's missing a little something but can't put my finger on it, a bit more sweetness?, a bit more salt? Not sure. I'm hoping once they sit overnight perhaps the flavour will meld a bit more and they'll taste a bit better tomorrow. I hope so, as I have a whole jar full of mix now. LOLOLOL.

Recipe says it makes 18 cookies, I got 15 out of it. Pretty close.

I'll report back tomorrow. I didn't put a review on the recipe page yet as I just want to wait and see for a day.

Beautiful Picture! I wonder why the hard time with the dough not being moist enough, was the egg small? The recipe looks good, like an oatmeal cookie with yummy ingredients added.

Thanks Linda! No, it was a large egg. I'm wondering if perhaps my kitchen was too cold. LOLOL.

Too bad these didn't turn out as good as you'd like Janet. Cookies have always been my nemesis. They either cook up weird or flatten out too much, or not enough. They do look fantastic though :)

Great photo Janet! I love how it looks in the jar, pretty!
Sometimes, with oatmeal cookies, I melt the butter first- makes it easier to mix as the batter can be quite stiff. :)
