Crockpot Beef And Lentils by Yummers

I was looking for a crockpot beef and lentil recipe and came across this. It has a very interesting ingredient list and I wasn't sure what to expect. While it was cooking it smelled so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. I was thinking stuffed peppers? Cocktail meatballs? Cabbage-tomato soup? What is that smell?! It wasn't until I tasted it that I was like "Oh! Sloppy Joes of course"!!
I'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce but had some Stubbs that was a free gift from my grocery store. So, I was pleasantly surprised I liked this recipe, Lol. And what a good idea to hide lentils in a Sloppy Joe type recipe! I can see the lentils in the picture I posted but no one had a clue they were in there as far as taste or texture; and you couldn't see them on the plate while eating. I used canned brown/yellow lentils.
Similar to the recipe picture, I served it with rice mixed with peas. But had I known it would taste like Sloppy Joes I would have preferred it over toast or buns. And next time I would like to add an onion to this.
I could seeing subbing the BBQ sauce for ketchup or hoisin sauce in this recipe and I would like to play around with the flavours a bit! I found it a little sweet so I added some hot sauce. But the texture was perfect so the ingredient amounts were spot on. :)
