How to make it

  • Combine the first ten ingredients in the slow cooker
  • heat oil and cook beef in a saucepan. When done drain and return to pan
  • sprinkle the flour over the beef and mix well. Slowly add the beef broth scraping the brown bits on the bottom of the pan as you go
  • add to the tomato mixture in the slowcooker
  • stir everything really well
  • cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours
  • when ready remove the bay leaf

    This tastes just like a Sloppy Joe! I love that it's really easy to hide the lentils in this recipe. I served it over rice and peas like pictured, but I think I'd like it better over toast or toasted buns. Next time I will add a diced onion to it or top it with green onions.
