Dutch Apple Pancake

    Dutch Apple Pancake by Shandy

While browsing apple recipes last night, my daughter picked this one out. And luckily I had all the ingredients on hand. I made it for today's Brunch, and it was super duper delicious!!
I had sweet apples instead of the more tart Granny Smith apple. So I only used about a tablespoon of sugar to sauté the apples with- instead of 3 tablespoons. And I decided to drizzle with a little maple syrup instead of the powdered sugar called for.
It puffed up more to one side, probably to do with the apple placement- and it took about 30 minutes to bake.
The pancake itself is tangy, and you get a slight lemon flavour from the zest. Which would be super flavorful all on it's own. But the sweet, cinnamon-apple topping pairs so well with it!
    Everyone LOVED it! :)

Points used to be big in to Dutch babies and pancakes and such. Wonder how he is making out and if the hurricane is anywhere near him?

You guys are really tormenting me with all of these sweet goodies. This looks good, Cosmicmother. Nice photo! I've never had a Dutch Baby, but it's on my bucket list of foods to try.

I hope Points is ok Janet! He would probably love this Dutch pancake, it's a little different than the usual ones!

Thanks Diz! You will have to try one soon! I only put a tablespoon of sugar in the apple topping, and the pancake itself (in this recipe) has no sugar in it.
On AR, my favorite recipe is called Big Germans ---https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/20520/big-germans/ ---I like to bake it on a sheet pan with one inch sides (jelly roll pan). And sprinkle with lemon juice and powdered sugar, or fill with fresh fruit.. :)

There is little difference between a German/Dutch pancake and a Yorkshire pudding (Popover) . Except the addition of sugar in some pancake recipes. ;)
