    Irish Scones by Lor

Loved it! The most perfect scone!! I added the currants called for but I can see any fruit--dried or fresh, citrus zest, nuts, chocolate etc.working great!
We all loved the currants in this, and I especially liked it with my afternoon earl grey tea. A nice treat to have once in awhile. :)
I made mine a little thicker, so they rose taller. I got 8 scones with my 2" biscuit cutter. The ones I had to reroll rose more wider and not as tall. I might cut them in wedges next time to avoid the rerolling of the dough for cutting.
Again, a perfect scone base that I will keep in my recipe file and use for now on!

Oh YUM!, lovely photo Shona. I think this would work with lactose free milk and lactose free butter. I like the way your scones sit, very nice. I bookmarked it..

Thanks Manella, I did use earth balance vegan butter and lacto-free milk. I think any milk would work here (nut, soy, coconut etc.) because it's there just to bring the dough together. :)

    I think Mr.J would love them! :D

Well aren't those lovely looking scones Shona! Nice job! I'm going to bookmark this recipe. I sometimes get together with girlfriends and we have 'Afternoon Tea'. Love how tall these got! :) I would like to try putting raspberries or lemon zest in them and then serving them with Devonshire cream! :)

Great photo, Cosmicmother! As usual, your baked goods look amazing. This reminds me a lot of traditional Irish soda bread. I'm sure they were fabulous!
