Oatmeal Waffles

I haven't pulled out my waffle iron in a couple years, but the other day I was browsing through a blog all about waffles, and I told myself I would make some soon. So here it is! These came out pretty perfect, slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I doubled up on the cinnamon, but it is not needed if you just like a hint of it :) Michael and Bri loved them and were stuffed after. Served fresh strawberries on top, delicious!

Wow, those look gorgeous, Mommyluvs, and healthy(ish) with the oats. My husband loves waffles, but we gave away our old waffle maker to buy a newer one and are sorry now thatI we just didn't hang onto the old one. We've tried three new ones and taken them all back. So much for "new and improved" :p

Mommyluvs and Linda, what kind of waffle irons do you have? Our old Black and Decker was a Belgian waffle maker that made one 7-inch round waffle at a time. I never used a Belgian waffle recipe, just our favorite regular one and it worked great. I tried a Farberware from Wal-Mart and it didn't seem to work right; an expensive Calphalon from Bed, Bath & Beyond that got so hot that one side of the frame warped; and a Cuisinart from Bed, Bath and Beyond that also didn't seem to work right. All three went back to the store and we don't currently have a waffle maker :(

They're beautiful Michelle and your picture is gold! I have very fond memories of my Mom making Waffles in a big old fashioned cast iron/stainless steel waffle maker when I was a kid. She'd make special ones for breakfast once in awhile and pile them high with whipping cream and thawed frozen strawberries so there was lots of juice. What a way to start the day! Michael and Bri are lucky ducks! I have never actually bought myself a waffle maker. Hubby doesn't like pancakes or waffles. Boo.

    Thanks everyone!

Bakerme, it does seem like a lot of "new and improved" items are not as good as they used to be. I had a really old Crockpot my MIL gave Michael and I when we moved in together and I hated it because the insert didn't come out and I would have to do all kinds of tricks to get it clean without getting the outside wet. Chunked it and bought new one a couple years later and man do I miss it lol. It cooked things so much better and so much slower than the new one's now. It was a pain, but worth it.

Linda, definitely dust off that waffle iron and put it to use! I regret now not using it as much as I used to. Think I'm going to make some blueberry waffles next time :)

Mine I got for a Christmas present and it's a Food Network brand. Works great!

Those are good memories Janet :) Never thought of the juice from the frozen strawberries, I bet that was delicious!! Boo at Jim not liking pancakes or waffles...

Thanks, Mommyluvs. I know what you mean about the new crockpots. The two "new and improved" models I tried both went back because so they cooked so hot they made the food mush. I'll check out the Food Network brand waffle maker at Kohl's, the only place around here that carries Food Network stuff.

Beautiful photo! Would you believe I've never made waffles?! Something I've never really cared for even though I love pancakes and French toast. I hear you on the crockpot! I still have our old one that was a wedding gift some 30yrs ago. The liner does not come out, but it cooks like a crockpot is supposed to cook. I still use it on occasion with some "vintage" crockpot recipes like crockpot broccoli casserole. The problem is, it seems small compared to the new ones.

DIZ, our small 3-1/2 qt. crockpot is plenty big. The new ones, at 6-, 7- and more-qt. are waaaay too big for just the two of us.

Diz, that was the other problem with the old crock pot for us is it was too small. I need to go garage saleing and find an old but big one :)

I think I have a KRUPS Bakerme ... it's packed away and in storage because we are moving hopefully end of December or early January. I used it once but didn't like the waffles I made. They seems "soggy". The machine itself seemed to worked well.

Thanks, Linda, I'll look at Krups, too. Good luck moving! I hope that means your house sold???

MMmmmmmm on blueberry waffles Michelle. Now you guys have me wanting to go buy myself a waffle maker. You can buy them for under $15 although, perhaps as you guys are saying....maybe they're not the best quality. I should see if my Mom's is still around although she may have pitched it.

Chuckie, the Calphalon and Cuisinart weren't cheap, around $100.00 each, and they didn't work any better than the $20.00 Farberware from Wal-Mart. If you still have your mom's, hang on to it!

Thanks for the link, Mommyluvs2cook! I tried doing a search using Food Network and waffle makers as the keywords and I got all kinds of different brands. Now I know exactly what it looks like when I'm at the store. My husband *loves* waffles, so I don't really care how much it costs if I can get one that works!

I know, me too, I was just curious at how much mine cost and when I typed it in I was also getting a ton of different brands as well. Finally came across it on Amazon and wanted to share it in case you were having the same problem, and you were lol :)
