    Recipe: Kentucky Horse Race Pie

You might say I have a “bucket list” when it comes to food. This has been on my list FOREVER! With the Kentucky Derby fast approaching, I decided it was time to make the pie that has become so famous. What’s not to like? A rich, chocolate and walnut pie! I used my favorite brand of bourbon, Wild Turkey. I prefer it because it has a sweetness to it that’s unlike other bourbons I’ve tried. I even spiked the whipped cream! (Just a tip, buy 80 proof and not the 101 as the higher grain alcohols do not work as well when it comes to baking.) For a final over the top, I served with some vanilla ice cream on the side. Pure Heaven!

Agree, this looks amazing!!! Thanks for the tip on the bourbon, I don't bake with alcohol much but this I might need to stop and get a bottle for!

Thank You, Everyone! I should probably add that I served this warm. It's like a gooey chocolate chip cookie!

Your photo looks appetizing. I have saved the recipe. I do not bake with alcohol but will jot down the info of the bourbon on the recipe. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Cheryl, you could make this without the bourbon. There isn't that much in it when you consider this makes 2 pies. Honestly, I couldn't taste the alcohol so it would probably taste the same with or without it.
