WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED...

  • lilliancooks 15 years ago
...in joining a food trade! I got this idea when another member told me that they received a loaf a homemade bread from one of our members...and they loved it!

So I thought, why don't we try this? Of course it would have to be homemade, non perishable, food only...like bread, cookies, candy or things of that nature.

If a lot of members are interested, then I was thinking I would start a seperate group just for the food trade. I'm not sure about all the details yet, so your ideas are very much welcomed!

Maybe members who are interested in joining can tell what food item or items they would make for a trade. Everyone can look over the list of items and make arrangements with the member they would like to trade with. They can PM each other with their home address so the food can be sent.

How does that sound? Does anyone have any input? Lets hear from who ever would like to join!

I'll be in and out most of the day, so please post your ideas here.

Sounds like a great idea brewing, Lillian! Like you said, I'm not sure how exactly this could work out. We shoul hear from Jim and Vickie first, to see how they did it.

I know that on Allrecipes there have been gift exchanges around Christmas time and it was very exciting for everyone involved! As long as we can PM each other with our address, to the people we are trading with, it should be easy. I wouldn't want to put my address out there for the world to see.

I have a couple of foods I can make that would be able to be mailed witout going bad. I have a couple of different breads, a few different kinds of biscotti, many kinds of candies and apple jerky! I would live to be able to trade with some members! I hope we get some takers!!!

I LOVE getting food in the mail. This is why I am constantly sending away for free samples. I would do it, but Lillian I think you already made most of my recipes :) that would be travel worthy. like the cereal bars or the lemon twist cookies. I am not a good bread baker. Although I do have a secret cake recipe that i am not supposed to give out. I guess that could be one. Yup I am in.

YAY Laurie! Angelinaw is also in...Okay so we have 3 so far! Come on everyone...let us know what you think!

Hey Laurie...I would still do a trade for your lemon cookies and cereal bars, because I wouldn't have to make them...I could just sit back and enjoy eating them when they arrive at my door!!!

Hi everyone, sorry I'm a little late to this conversation, but I have had a busy (and dusty )weekend working on my kitchen remodel...I just got finished cleaning everything up (plaster dust spreads all over the place - no matter how hard you try to contain it) and hopped into my PJs.

I'm in...I really don't have much to trade...I make a mean biscotti (chocolate or gingerbread) and I made Trigger's spice cookies. If anyone is interested I have a can or two of pickeled green tomatoes left. I am open for suggestions...

Same here, I don't really have much to offer. My favourites are Baklava and spicy pickled peppers. I don't know how I woul mail it to someone, though. What type of mail would you use (express?), how would you packege it, etc.

Oh, I'm liking these trade choices!!! Baklava...Yum!

I think we could send it UPS standard...and just pack it with some bubble wrap. It would have to be food items with at least a one week shelf life.

Didn't think about UPS, that sounds fine.

This is great!!! 4members so far! This is enough to start.

I'll make a new group for this! Maybe I'll call it 'The Food Trade' or 'The Great Food Trade'...what do you think? Anyone have any other ideas? Going to need an avatar also!

Angelina, I am in just for the pickled green tomatos :). What if each person listed one thing they would send that week and if someone wants it they have to give a couple of choices of what they would send. And if more than one person wants it Like the tomatoes, the person who is doing the sending gets to decide which item she likes better to get in return.. Kind of like a yankee swap :). I am just saying this because it could get pricy to send out more than once a week. and if you want to relist something that had good response you could?

Well I'm pleased my pickeled green tomatoes has this kind of response!
I think making a list of things you would like to send would be a great start and then we could see who is interested in what.
I think I would only want to send at one time to the interested party/ies, because Laurie is right, it could get expensive.
I use UPS at work all of the time and unless you're shipping to another state, ground delivery gets it there the next day. If you go to the UPS website they have a shipping option that will give you a timetable for delivery once you put in the address you are shipping to. You can always hit cancel once you find out.

I have pickeled green tomatoes, chocolate biscotti, and gingerbread biscotti to send.
Juels, I would love some Baklava (although not too much) - I am in a serious food monitoring state in order to go diving in the Keys in May.

    I had another thought...
I have a Trader Joe's here, so if there was anything someone was dying for, please let me know.
I also have access to an Italian Market , which has chickpea flour.

Sorry I haven't been around in the past 24 hrs...I had emergency oral surgery. Still not done with it! I'll be going back tomorrow morning to have a molar pulled. Then probably going to get a tooth implant to relpace it! Doesn't this sound like fun!!! LOL! Anyway...

I agree that it can be exspensive to send packages, so I'll have to choose wisely! I'll probably only do it a couple of times! But it should be fun!

Hi Pleclare...I'm so glad you are joining!

I think Laurie is right...we should look at the items we are putting up to trade and decide who we want to trade with. Looks like the pickeled tomatoes is the hot item. Two takers for that one!

I'll start a new group for this...I guess I'll just call it 'The Food Trade' group! I'll start it now! Please don't mind me if I'm not on as much for the next 48 hrs...I'm on a lot of pain meds right now!

Lillian, I hope you feel better soon! Indeed, maybe some pickled green tomatoes will help!
Angelina, I'd love to try some of your gingerbread biscotti in swap for the baklava! My husband loves gingerbread everything!

Oh, yeah, Angelina, May is still too far away! I don't think a little Baklava is going to do any serious damage to your figure!

Oh yeah...Angel! I like your idea of sending store bought items! That is also an option! There are certain food items that someone may need but can't get in their local food store...so another member can get it for them and trade something else for it! I'll also mention this in that group! Thanks for that great idea!:)
