Frosting Recipe

  • wokkingmum 17 years ago
    Hi there!
I need a frosting recipe, does anyone has one?

I'm successful with my 1st attempt with my cupcake using my muffin maker (hahaha I got no oven ;p) but I find it boring. I'm thinking of adding frosting but do not know how to make it. If it's successful, I'm going to make a special birthday cupcake for my son on his coming birthday.

    So anyone, please help!!

    Thanks!

Butter frosting is just 1/3 c butter, 1 lb of confectioner's sugar, a tsp of vanilla, and maybe a 1/4c of milk.

but I don't know what the metric conversion would be.

this butter recipe is a little more complicated than scearley's, plus it can be kinda drippy which i can see you walking away right now...but don't! this stuff tastes amazing! but butter will do that. And you can add more xxx sugar than it calls for to try to harden it up, tho it takes a lot i admit. Probably why there's a pound of it in the above recipe. smart move. It's more like a glaze, really. We haven't revised the recipe because sometimes drippy is oh so good. My mom and I have used this for eons.

Bakery-style Frosting ( they really have no right to call it that)

    2 T. water
1/4 c. granulated or xxx sugar

Make into a simple syrup by cooking in the microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes or by bringing to a boil on the stove and letting cook for 1 minute.

    Add:
    1 1/2 c. sifted confectioner's sugar
    1/4 c. salt
1 egg (just the white for white frosting)
    - if making chocolate icing add 1/3 c. of cocoa

    Blend with syrup

    Add:
    1/2 c. butter (plus 2 T. for choco. icing)
    1t. vanilla

    Beat until creamy with mixer.

    correction:

    Don't use a 1/4 cup of salt. I meant a teaspoon. : +

i know you would have figured it out anyway but my reputation is at stake!
