Friendship breads

Do any of you make friendship breads? If so, what recipes do you use?
I've had a couple of different recipes recently and they were quite good.

It's a yeast starter that ends up in a quick bread.
It's supposed to be Amish but who only knows if that is where it really comes from.
You can make a starter with a package of yeast, 1 cup each of milk, flour and sugar. Mix that all together and put in a zip lock bag. You squeeze it around every day, squeeze out excess air, when needed and then add another round of milk, flou and sugar after a few days.
The food police will now be after all of us who do this because we will be poisoning ourselves.
You can get the actual starter plus recipes if you do an internet search for friendship bread.
There is also one for brandied fruit that I am dying to get started again, using all sorts of canned fruits and loads of sugar. It sets around on your counter for weeks before it's done. It will smell like an operational still before you are done.

I have only had friendship bread once. I wish someone would pass me a starter again. If you find a good one, will you let us know?

I posted a basic recipe on an earlier post but it doesn't have the days between adding more. If you do a search on the internet, you will find many bread recipes plus starter recipes.
    It's pretty simple.

Isn't the starter dough supposed to morph in flavor as it is passed from one friend to the next, depending on the care and feeding and environment of the current holder of the starter, so that each loaf has its own unique taste? It picks up different natural yeasts as it is passed from house to house to house. Each yeast with its own character. Maybe the reason why SanFrancisco Sourdough can only be made in SanFrancisco, because of the indigent yeast only found there.

Friendship bread also uses baking powder for leavening. Sourdough is a sponge starter, different from friendship bread's more runny starter.
Most of the starters I have smelled have a more fresh yeasty aroma where the sourdough starters tend to have a bit more of a sharp flavor, if they've been around for any length of time. Any of the starters have the potential go pick up stray yeast spores so the flavor can change with it but the friendship starters tend to be kept in a bag or covered jar, making it harder to pick up the stray spores.
I think the sourdough starters are less protected so they are more apt to pick up those stray spores.
(Starters can be purchased for both the friendship or sourdough.)
