Friday's Feast

Good Afternoon Everyone!! Hope you all have a wonderful Day!

Just wanted to get a thread started. Heading out the door in a few to grab something out for lunch. It's hot too. Hoping to stop at the grocery store to pick up some ingredients needed to make this tonight for dinner ... http://www.food.com/recipe/california-pizza-kitchen-chopped-salad-112979
It's my favorite salad there and hoping this is their authentic recipe. I can see from the ingredient list the salad ingredients look right, hoping the dressing is too. If not tonight then tomorrow.

Have either an ear infection or throat, can't tell because both are bothering me and only on the left side, has been for a couple weeks but nothing so alarming that it needed immediate attention but now it's been too long and not getting any better in spite of my home therapies so I made an appointment with the doctor but they can't see me till Monday which is fine. Probably just need some antibiotics.

I ordered a new countertop oven/toaster oven from amazon and it arrived today so later I'll take it out of the box and ditch the other one since it's a possible hazard.

Poured rain late yesterday, finally, and with that the high humidity is now back in conjunction with high heat.

Yum! That salad looks delicious, Linda! I think even Den might like that minus the garbanzo beans. Try to keep cool if you can.
I am guessing, Janet and Jim are taking her cousin on a tour of Ottawa today? I was wondering how your cousin ended out in PA after growing up in NewFoundland, Janet?
Sorry to hear about your cousin, Karen:( How did your dinner go and did your GS enjoy it?
I did a bunch of running around yesterday so I don't need to go out today. Yeah! We will have BBQ'd rib eye steaks tonight. Den will have oven fries with his and I will have mine with sauteed mushrooms, asparagus, and a baked potato.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning! Where is everyone? That salad looks so good Linda! I love Food.com. it's my 2nd favorite food site, this being the first :) Bumped Allrecipes way down the list since it takes a year and a day to get one page to open. Good call making a doctor's appt.

No swim lessons today so I am back at my old gym that's closer to my house. After this going to run home, grab lunch then head to pick up Bri from camp. I sat in traffic for 4 hours last year when picking her up so I am leaving extra early. If we get there early there is plenty of shopping and we can grab dinner as well. Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Good morning Joce, Linda, and Michelle.

I was thinking of starting a thread much earlier but really don't have much going on today....Boring! Get GS at 3 and then we take him swimming. Probably will fix spaghetti tonight since he likes it, don't really want McD or Arby's or ??? which is about all he eats if we go out. Unless I make pancakes. Hmmm. Maybe.

The big dinner is on Monday. He has been pumped by daughter to think it will be cool. We shall see. Crossing fingers. He is well behaved (or else) but since he will be missing swimming he may be a bit moody.

Linda, the salad sounds good. My hubby would not eat garbanzo beans (boo!) and GS doesn't like salads so I would have to shove a pbj at him -- not the most wonderful supper for a tired out swimmer - ha ha! But the take-it-or-leave-it option (modified slightly) still rules.

Joce, set an extra, virtual plate and I would love the asparagus. LOL!

Michelle, ugh on the traffic! Have a nice dinner out!

    Have a nice day!

I guess I missed part of your post, Linda. Sorry to hear about your sore throat and or ear. I am glad you made a doctor's appointment. I hope you like your new toaster oven.
I hope you miss the traffic, Michelle. I would not be a happy camper waiting for four hours in traffic! I hope everything goes smoothly and you get to go shopping and out for dinner.
Pancakes for dinner with some bacon would please me and so would spaghetti, Karen. You should get your GS to write a list of everything he likes. Maybe he likes more things than you think he does? Or maybe not? I will send a virtual plate of our dinner to you with extra asparagus.

My condolences on the death of your cousin Karen, I'm so sorry I missed your post regarding. Super Wow on having know them all, that doesn't happen for most people. I only have a handful of cousins and lost touch with them all as we got older. Use to know them all when we were children.

The salad from California Pizza Kitchen is so good! Something about the combination of ingredients is good. I'll get the ingredients next time I go shopping, we have enough to eat here now that needs to be eaten up instead of buying more. We forgo the tomatoes and add avocado instead so I'm sure you can make any substitutions needed.

Hope you don't encounter any traffic Michelle ... 4 hours is insane!

Love RibEye steaks Joce, they are my pick of choice if given a choice.

The house buying venture in SC is rearing it's head again. It's still enticing and we put a call into the guy at the sales office and the lot we would take is still available. So .... to be continued. We (this time DH and I) just may be making another trip there for the final conclusion to make sure everything is everything.

    Hi again.

I had 36 first cousins. Four are no longer living. (Two I didn't know had passed, they were the brother and sister of the one who died.) 69 is so young!

GS will probably con us into going out - NOT McD (shudder) -- unless I decide to fix the obligatory spaghetti that he loves.

Pancakes with bacon is quite good and we do like it, Joce. He would eat the pancake but he really needs protein, not so much the refined carbs. Altho at this point anything he eats is good! He was diagnosed with "failure to thrive" which I think is the code for they have no idea why he isn't putting on weight (muscle) and is short for his age. I think the Dr. should be looking into doing SOMETHING soon but you know the medical profession! To complicate it, he has braces so not everything is easy to eat.

LOL on the house hunting, Linda. Good luck in finding the perfect home or plan. We tried suburban living in Georgia and decided it was not for us. Lived in Hyde Park, Chicago in the 60's, we like it but had no kids and were footloose and fancy free. Would not do that today! Have you decided on a house plan? If we had one built today it would have a den, sun room, formal LR, three bath, three bedroom, gigantic kitchen, huge pantry, and a single room with a zillion built in cupboards to keep "stuff." Of course, we would have to win the powerball to afford it......

Here is a pancake recipe that is high in protein that I make and tastes just like a pancake ... don't tell anyone what's in them and they won't know the difference ... Trust me.
    http://www.jocooks.com/healthy-eating/biggest-loser-pancakes

We have a house in mind which is why we keep "revisiting" SC ... the house is perfect. Offers first floor living which is what we want and are having a difficult time finding. Want all the main rooms on the first floor (kitchen, dining room, family room, masterbath, office, a bedroom that would be my office), sorta like a ranch, but there is a guest bedroom upstairs (that's all there is is the bedroom and a bathroom upstairs), and it will have a basement that is finished with two unfinished rooms (one for storage, one for tools and a small workshop). Oh and a 2 car garage.

SP earlier Joce! Yum on your dinner, I would choose the mushrooms, asparagus and baked potato over oven fries any day :)

I think pancakes for dinner is a fantastic idea Karenina. My kiddos LOVE breakfast for dinner :)

Made it here in 2 hrs so there must have been a wreck last time or something to make it 4 hrs. Caiden and I are now at Starbucks, I have a small coffee and Caiden a chocolate milk. I saw a Chipotle near by so we will stop there to eat. Caiden loves burritos!

Yea on the 2 hour trip and not 4. Chipotle sounds like a fine idea to me Michelle.

Forgot to say sometime I add a banana or half of one (depending on size) to the pancake recipe above. It's just enough to make them a little sweeter or add that "something" to them. They also hold up well in the fridge once made.

I will look up the pancake recipe when I am home and on the computer. Watching GS swim and using my iPhone. Probably he will get Arby's classic and a chocolate shake. Adding a banana would be a good idea so must pick up some.

Chipotle sound good to me also, Michelle. There are none close around us but I keep hearing it is good and no GMO's.

Wayne likes breakfast for dinner --- esp if pancakes and maple syrup are part of it. He orders skillet breakfasts often, with eggs, ham, potatoes etc in it.

    Best go. See you later.

Hi everyone. Sorry that I haven't been here but things have been crazy busy and I haven't had much time. Joe has been painting so I've had all of the dogs as well as Annie. His mom fell about 8 weeks ago and fractured her knee. She's recovering in the hospital and that hasn't been going well. She's quite demanding and expects us to visit every day. She calls constantly and wants us to drop whatever we're doing and rush there. The construction is still ongoing and I haven't been getting much sleep. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer.... on the upside our son has returned from University and has received his degree. We are so very proud of him. I'll try and get back more often because I miss ODD and all of you.
