GO SENS GO Saturday!

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Saturday Morning Everyone! What plans does everyone have for the weekend?

Karen, did you get flooded out? A shame you had to cut your RV trip a bit short but I'd be a tad nervous if my trailer was rocking too. :)

I include a couple of photos of the fairy garden furniture I made yesterday. It's a lot of fun.

Our Sens/Rangers game is on at 3 this afternoon, which is a shame as we prefer 7 p.m. games. No idea what to make for dinner yet. I'll have to go poke around in the freezer.

Cooler here today and for the next few days. I may get my hummingbird feeder out as those little guys should be showing up pretty soon.

    Shona, how's Roxy today?

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good morning everyone. The fairy garden is adorable Janet, what fun. I so agree about the Sens game, it just doesn't feel right to watch hockey when it isn't dark, lol. It's going to be a busy day here as we will celebrate our son's BD tomorrow. He's requested baked pasta so I will make the sauce and meatballs today and if I have the time the meat sauce for the pasta as well. Dinner will be grilled steak that we will share. I'll make a caesar salad and baked potato for us and seared scallops and crab for me as he doesn't care for either.

    Thinking of you Linda.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Finding 5 minutes to stop in and say hello. I've been reading but just don't have the energy to post at the very end of day which is when I seem to have "my" time.

All is the same here. The hot humid weather seems to have arrived and it's just plain awful. Yesterday is was in the low 90's but the humidity was high making it hard to breath outside and uncomfortable.

The fairy furniture is really cute Janet! Very crafty indeed.

Your little fairy gardens are adorable, Janet. I am not crazy about the start time of the game either.
Happy Anniversary to Michelle and Michael! I hope you are able to go out for lunch or dinner to celebrate a bit.
Nice your son asked for baked pasta for his birthday, Bren. I know it is time-consuming but I know you will make it with love. Lol I do a little chuckle when you mention steak for your HB every Saturday too:) I will take the scallops and shrimp any day.

Hi, Linda, I am glad you checked in. I have been worried about you. Did your DH's doctor's appointment on Wednesday help at all? Ugh! I hate humidity and I am not looking forward to it at all!

Den did the grocery shopping this morning and then brought us back our brunch/breakfast from MacDonald's and we just finished it. Den will be working out in the garden and on the front lawn for the rest of the day. Den will have his normal cheeseburgers and fries for dinner and I don't have a clue what I am having yet. Our Festival of the Maples is on at the moment and this town is overrun with tourists which is good for business of course.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Happy Anniversary Michelle and Michael from me too!

Hope you are feeling somewhat better Joce. Pain is a terrible thing and hope it works its way out to give you relief.

DH seems to be in ideal health other than having had a stroke and the damage it done. It's just hard accepting how much our lives have changed and what we are now limited to doing. By now he should be starting to talk and he's not and I'm believing he never will which is frustrating for both of us. I'm again am seriously thinking of placing him somewhere just trying to figure out how to afford it and it would have to be against his will. I am a fulltime adult babysitter at this point in my life. It just gets to me and gets me down. Also having the house in SC hanging over my head doesn't help. But people have bigger problems out there so I'm trying to be thankful and find happiness in what I do have. It just sucks being alone down here.

So do you baked spaghetti noodles with the sauce and meatballs Bren? Have fun prepping for your son's birthday and I hope he has a lovely celebration. Your dinner sounds ah-mazing!

Ugh on the heat and humidity Linda. :( I melt and get cranky in those conditions. I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a full time caregiver to a partner who cannot communicate and have the house thing in your lap too. I'm sure you've heard us mention Pat before. She used to be a big part of ODD. She has passed away now but one of her very favourite sayings was "This too shall pass", and it's a good one. I can't remember if I ask in the past, but is there a support group of people in a similar situation to you that you could meet with, just to be able to talk and perhaps get some ideas on how to deal with everything. How's LD and your bunny these days?

Yum on McD's for brekkie Joce. Yum on Den's cheesburger.

Happy 10th Anniversary Michelle and Michael!

    Good afternoon everyone.

    Cute fairy funiture Janet!

Caesar salad and grilled steak sound great, Bren. I am sure your son will enjoy his baked pasta.

Linda, it is never easy being a caretaker, but you do seem to be handling the situation quite well. I hope DH does re-learn how to speak soon. Hoping you find a solution that is good for both of you. It is good to hear from you even if circumstances intervene. Is there an adult day care facility anywhere close that is reasonable? It would give you a break and time to yourself.

Our friend who visited earlier have taken a trip to visit relatives in Texas. They called on the way back but we were leaving on an RV trip so did not stop. They are talking about a July trip but the two days they were here before wore us out so badly! Her dementia has worsened and it is unsafe to leave her unsupervised for one minute. She snitches things and hides them in her suitcase, tries to mess with the stove, and no weapons can be left in sight.

Hi Joce. Yay Den for bringing home the brunch!

Roads are flooded all over. Even the route to church has one badly flooded area. And no way around! Wayne is supposed to pull a small utility trailer, that belongs to a friend, with a sprayer on it, 95 miles to church Sunday, but it would be extremely difficult if not the mpossible. I want him to call and see if it can wait a week.

J is not listed on the closed routes as of yet, the river is fluctuating in depth by the hour. Weird! So glad we did not wait! We never would have made it home.

    So glad to be home.

    Take care. See you later.

GO Sens Go!! Adorable garden, Janet. I'm sure you are gearing up for game time by now. I hear Pat's voice when you recall "This too shall pass" even though I never spoke to her. Her presence was extremely strong. I miss her still. She had the New England practicality and no nonsense attitude that I greatly appreciate.

Joce, how is your back today? I'd join Den with his cheeseburger and fries. Nice that he did the shopping. It reminds me of my adventures of Fred shopping, I never knew what I was going to get. The stroke just messed with his ability to process words. I'm forever grateful to the Public staff on helping him navigate a list. However, I did get tomato soup instead of tomato sauce a few times too. Those memories are so dear to me.

How scary for your friend Karen. Dementia is a horrible thing. :( Will hope that the sprayer can wait a week. If it is raining so much it's useless to spray until things dry out anyway. Good timing on the return trip that's for sure.

I miss Pat tons too Tina. She was definitely one of my 'faves'. :) Yep, I'm gearing up for the game. Trying to replicate the deviled ham sandwiches I had at our Afternoon tea on Monday with a gherkin in the middle, pinwheel style. I think I need rolling practice. LOL. Shall serve those and some carrot sticks in front of the game for lunch.

Jim and I took a spin over to Almonte and visited Jim's favourite brewery "Cartwright Springs" again. It's fun to support the local businesses and it's a lovely drive. Bright and sunny out at the moment. We've decided on shishkebobs for dinner tonight. Beef cubes, onion chunks, peppers and mushrooms.

Happy anniversary to Michelle and Michael. Ten years, woohoo! I hope you get some time to celebrate.

Bren, I always try to make my daughter's favorite meal for her birthday. Fish and yellow rice. I have not made it for her this year, bad mom. I'm sure doing your prep ahead will make tomorrow much less stressful. Your dinner sounds yummy. If I had some anchovies, I'd be making a Caesar salad for one.

Linda, we broke records for the heat yesterday. Brooksville reached 97 and Tampa 93. Thank goodness the Pinellas peninsula was cooler with the sea breezes. It is so humid. I feel sorry for Olivia working outside at the Dog Bar or at the Bon Aire. She comes home worn out from overheating and sweating 8 hours.

Linda, my heart aches for you. I too, have been a full-time caregiver, first for our son, and secondly for my husband. It is the hardest job ever. You have overwhelming responsibilities with little acknowledgement of your efforts. It can beat you down. You are tired physically, emotionally and mentally. You are right to seek help. Is there a daytime adult care available? I was fortunate to be home for Fred in the daytime and have Olivia here to watch him while I worked late in the night. Physically Fred was okay, but he had severe impairments mentally. He couldn't determine if an action had consequences, like putting acid in a toilet to clean it, or using foil in microwave or giving snacks to the littlest dog when the 85 lb. food jealous beast is there to snatch the food. I had the ruined porcelain tub and toilet, burnt microwave, and stitches in my hand after prying Charlie's jaw open to release Skippy to prove it. It isn't easy. I got mad, I yelled, I was nasty. He was always sorry for his mistakes and I wasn't always forgiving. My guilt over being less than understanding has made my grief even deeper since his death. I should have been nicer, I should have gone to the beach to sit with my Sun god and watch the sunset. I should have hugged him more, I should have held his strong hands in mine. Believe me, I know. The mental disconnect about want to versus can do is demoralizing for the stroke patient and the caregiver. I urge you to see if there is an adult facility to give you some relief. A few hours of respite are crucial to your health and well being. Gentle hugs, dear one.

    Shona, hope Roxy is better.
Karen, hope you made it through the storms without damage.

My solitary supper will be a guacamole tostada and leftover charro beans. I don't know if I have the gumption to make a chocolate flan cake again. Last time was a disaster.

I have the game on! Go Sens! Rangers are dirty players. Let's score during power play.

Karen, I'm sorry your friend's condition has deteriorated to such a difficult state. The flooding sounds frightening and it surely impairs scheduled trips. I'm with Janet, can you postpone pulling the trailer? You and I think alike about an adult daycare facility.

I'm hungry. Off to find a snacks. Wish I had some ham salad, wink wink.

You've had four very difficult months Linda and really need some alone time to regenerate. I'm so sorry that you are going through this and wish that there was something that I could do.

Dementia is difficult to live with Karen and I could see where you would be worn out after their visit. Yikes on the flooding. I vote to wait a week.

Yummy breakfast Joce. I will google The Festival of Maples later. I hope that your back is feeling better.

Happy Anniversary Michelle. I hope that you get some time to celebrate.

I'm so sorry Tina. You've been through a lot as well. Try not to beat yourself up though, we all have our level of tolerance.

No, the meatballs don't go into the pasta, Janet.I make a sauce with meatballs, pork tenderloin and sausages that will be eaten after the pasta with salad. I make another sauce with ground beef that I will use for the rotini.

Goodness at your temperatures Tina. :( Please do not beat yourself up over things you feel you should have or could have done differently when Fred was alive. You have always, and I repeat always, been a champion for Fred and Tyler and you have always expressed your love for both of them, every single day, and even on the hard ones. Give yourself a hug instead will ya! Passing you some ham salad sammies. I've got leftovers. They were yummy but they're not pretty. :)

Wow Bren. It's sounds like a feast for sure. Very cool on the sauce with meatballs, pork tenderloin and sausages. Wow.

The Rangers are winning 3-1. Ugh.

Bren and Tina, Wayne's comment about you all agreeing it was better waiting a week to pull the trailer was, and I quote, "Awe, Geez !" He has to be led into thinking it is his decision after a long analysis of the situation. Still raining.... we are not in the heaviest area all the time but it is sure coming down.

Good afternoon to all. Love the fairy garden Janet. Think of doing something like that myself. Have a little area out front that would be adorable. Son's birthday dinner sounds delightful Bren! Good to see you Linda. I agree with trying to find an adult daycare. Would at least give you some "me" time. No one can really understand what all is involved in this situation unless you have been thru it yourself. Tina, I remember the days of you caring for Fred. Your love always shown thru in your posts about him. And it's totally normal to get frustrated and even angry at times. Especially when you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. I miss Pat too. She was one great lady! She even had a friendship with my son Cayce back in the day when he cooked a lot. He was always right beside me when I would log on to GR asking if Pat had posted any new recipes. He was sad when she passed and made a smoothie recipe.....just for her......

Yes, our weather here has been ungodly hot. I think 95F today and the heat index value exceeding 100 degrees! We are suppose to get some cooler temps this coming week.

Not sure yet what's for dinner. Still trying to find out who will be here. Being as it's Saturday night I am assuming Ben won't be. But never know. Cayce is back to being sick in bed again. He was doing better but he has worked with his day today and yesterday afternoon out in this heat. I think he's dehydrated. Came home looking white as a ghost. So he won't want a heavy meal I'm sure.

Well off to divide and freeze a ton of meat that I bought the other day when I did a major grocery run. Got to get it done today. Certainly don't want to lose any of it!

Hope all enjoy the rest of the day. Will try to pop back later.

    Hi everyone,
We took a drive to University of New England in Maine for a college tour with Becca and my niece Daniella who is same age. It's about an hour and a half away. SIL came too. The campus was beautiful. I would have loved to have gone there. Had it's own beach and the dining hall and library overlooked water. After the tour we drove to Kennebunkport and had lunch. Had my first lobster roll of the season. It was delish. Houses and scenery was cool. We had a good day.

I remember that Kimmer about Pat and Cayce. So cute! Sorry to hear he's feeling sick again. :( It's SO important to keep hydrated if you're out in the heat for any time at all.

5-5 Tina. I'm dyin, a head ache is starting and my throat hurts from yelling so much. LOL. :)

What a lovely day with Becca Laurie. Did she like the University as much as you? SO envious of your lobster roll! NICE!

Kimmer, sorry Cayce came home sick. I nag Olivia all the time to drink enough water. She fills buckets full of ice at the Dog Bar for the dogs and I tell her to drink a bucket too. She is working 11 a.m. to midnight. Ugh.

I feel for Olivia Tina. It's 6:40 and still 93 degrees!! Ya well his dad did his usual forgetfulness and left Cayce at a job and drove off with the cooler full of water. Didn't notice it until well into the day. Did bring it back, but still. Cayce said he drank some hose water that made him sick to his stomach. Pinellas county is doing their chlorine shock the last couple of weeks so maybe that made him sick. Don't know. Gave Dad a chewing out though, lol!

Congrats on the Sens win. Janet.

Hope Cayce feels better. Encourage the liquids.

Ham salad is good, Tina! Esp. with pickles and mayo. Yum!

    Hi to all.

It is still raining. We had a total of 5.9 inches from yesterday until about 5:00 this afternoon. Thunder is loud and close again. Sigh. Even Geezer has not come to get a bite.

Fritz is still in the kennel. We are staying with a couple in church Sunday night so he will stay there another couple of days.

Could have used Fritz. This afternoon a mouse ran across my foot and under a chair. Mauser followed but could not catch it. Guess the rain is driving them in. We set two traps, hope it goes for the peanut butter!

See you later, probably not until Monday.
