Good Morning Everyone ... it's c c c cold here this morning. 37(f)! My teeth are ch ch ch chattering.

DH has a routine doctor appointment this morning and after we will get breakfast out. Not sure yet what the plans are for the rest of the day but probably won't be much because it's suppose to be chilly all day. Unfortunately I only had one dog to keep me warm last night as opposed to three (LOL!).

-7C/19F here ladies! You're inching closer to Canadian weather. :) Tee hee! Good luck to your DH at his Dr.'s appointment Linda. How's he doing these days? LOL @ a one dog night.

    Morning Kimmer!

Just quickly checking in. Jim and I are off shortly to go make a batch of red wine for our summer Sangria with my girlfriend. We're going to go out for lunch afterwards.

Crazy occurrence here last night involving a turkey and some coyotes. Need to go look outside for tracks for more info. Will be back this aft. Have a great day everyone! We're going to do an "Appy Dinner" tonight and we FINALLY have a Sens Hockey Game to watch this evening. Hurray!

He's doing really well Janet, thanks for asking. Physically doing great but still no speech and I've kinda given up on it, sad. He seems to reading but still can not write out things because it's the same area of the brain that affects his speech. In his head he is talking but the words when he speaks just don't form.
Yes, it's Canada weather here!! and an indoor day for Chloe for sure Kimmer.
Have fun making wine and having lunch out. Oh No on the turkey/coyote thing. Hoping its turkeys 1, coyotes 0.

    Good morning.

Breakfast out is always good, Linda. Glad you were able to get the new car you wanted.

Poor Chloe! She would freeze in Missouri. We don't have a screened porch so it is either inside or outside for the cats.

We have a balmy 22 F this morning. A big improvement over the -5 F last week. Yesterday's high was 16 F. It is supposed to reach 40 F today and melt some snow. By Sunday it will be warmer and rainy. The horses will appreciate being able to be in the pasture again once the ice on the pond thaws.

GS did not swim. He has a winter weight parka with lined hood, and we would have brought the car around so he wouldn't have a long walk. Not the bravest of souls!

AC and Trouble opted to go outside. They will return shortly once they experience the cold temperature. Mel, who is a thinner and older cat, decided he preferred indoor warmth. Mauser and Fritz are dozing on my lap. Spoke too soon....Trouble just waddled back inside.

    See you later.

    SP Janet.

    Hope the turkey won!

AC just came inside. As he dashed by my chair I realized he was carrying a large mouse! It is now hiding behind the bookcase in the hallway. Three cats and one dog could not retrieve it! Must have a discussion with that cat.

I hope DH's doctor appointment goes well, Linda. Enjoy your breakfast out and try to keep warm.

Seems to be cold all over, Florida, Kimmer.

Have fun making wine, Janet. I hope the turkey won.

It will be good for the horses to be back outside and on the pasture when things thaw out there, Karen. Lol @ having all those cats and not one interested in catching a mouse. Maybe AC can catch it again? At least they are keeping your lap warm.

I have to go out later and pick up a few things. Dinner will be chicken and a rice pilaf.

Wishing everyone a great day and try to keep warm!

Hi Joce. AC is sleeping on the pony wall. The others are asleep on the couch, except Mauser, who is in hiding. None of them are interested in finding a mouse.

Even Fritz has lost interest n mousing. I think it is behind the bookcase, we set a trap there. Wayne did not put one in the back room, he didn't think a mouse could squeee under the door!

Laundry waits. The kitchen is in need of reorganizing, which will necessitate using a step stool! Thankfully the island is mobile so I can move it out of the way.

Yikes on AC bringing in a mouse Karen! Maybe he thought he was being helpful ... but it seems more like he rescued him from the cold outdoors, crazy cat.

Chicken and rice pilaf sound good Joce. Will you roast the chicken?

After DH's doctor appointment we went to IHOP for breakfast. It was freezing inside! I think they were too cheap to turn the heat on. The place was full too at 11:00, you would think everyone would have had their breakfast by then.
After, we stopped at the Italian Market and picked up our usual Chicken Parm and Lasagna. Will do the chicken tonight and lasagna day after tomorrow. I bought hot finger peppers sautéed in olive oil with garlic for me and a loaf of semalina bread to eat them with. Also bought a small piece of filet mignon for LD which he adores and eats raw. I won't feed him the whole thing in one feeding, he gets a few slices for a treat. His primal instinct comes to life when he's offered raw meat.
Doctor wants DH to have a CT neck scan to check his carotids so that is scheduled for February.

Speaking of Coyotes ... I never knew a thing like this existed until the other day. Ideal to help protect small dogs not only from coyote attacks but from other dogs and even birds of prey. So Cool! I would never put my dog in harms way but there are some people that just don't think so it gives the little one a fighting chance.

Glad to hear your hubby is doing well Linda. Hang in there. I so admire you taking charge and moving forward so purposely. You are to be commended. It's a really hard thing. Strokes are a nasty business but time does heal. I know it will likely never be the same, but I know it will get better too. Cold restaurants are most uncomfortable!!!! Yum at the goodies you got at the Italian Market. Don't you just love the smell of places like that when you step in their doors!!!! Luck LD getting a filet mignon! I saw that coyote jacket you posted on your FB page. NEVER saw anything like that in my life. In Rainy River, where my Mom lives, they have a lot of Eagles and it's a constant worry for those who live rurally and especially by the river that their small dogs will get picked up and carried away. That'd be the perfect solution I'm sure!

ROFL @ Mauser bringing a mouse inside Karen. LOLOL. I thought for sure it would keep all your animals entertained for the rest of the day, but apparently not. :)

Hi Joce! Your dinner sounds nice.

I had a very fun day. We mixed up our Shiraz and helped my girlfriend bottle her latest batch of wine and then we went to the big Asian Grocery store T&T that I love so much. I always get so inspired when I visit there. I bought a ton of different wontons. They had some neat ones this time including a shrimp and scallop wonton and a shrimp wonton with hot chili sauce inside! Bought some fresh lime leaves, thai basil, chili peppers, some haddock, a nice sized jar of kimchi, a huge bottle of Sriracha and a neat loaf of French Onion cheese bread which I've never tried but thought would go wonderfully with some homemade soup. LOVE that place.

The Turkish restaurant was closed. Boo. But we went nearby to a Thai restaurant called "Sukothai". I had the Pad Thai, Jim had a stir fried Chicken dish and my girlfriend had a stir fried seafood dish. It was good.

So I won't go in to graphic detail but....

Yesterday afternoon when we came home from Almonte it was getting dark. All the turkeys had gone up into the trees for the night except one male who was walking around disoriented in circles at the side of the house. Very odd. Around 5:30 we heard a HUGE bang on the roof of the house. Don't know if the turkey made it up in to a tree and then fell out or what happened and we didn't go out to look.

In the middle of the night Jim and I were awakened by coyotes SUPER close by. We don't often hear them in the winter time as we have the windows all sealed up. They were so close I actually felt nervous getting up to go to the washroom which I know is utterly ridiculous but the sound was so close and SO eerie.

When we got home from our excursion today we took a walk to the back of the property and sure enough come across coyote tracks at the back of the lawn. Follow them into the woods and there's not a dead turkey as we expected, but a small deer, totally eaten. Awful, but the circle of life.

Come back in the house and see the turkeys out the side of the house in the woods jumping up and down. Initially I think they are fighting as that happens a lot with the males, but then I see a ginormous hawk swooping down at them. The males were jumping up and sort of challenging the hawk. SO weird. It's been a very active day here in the boonies. I'll post pics on my FB page.

Coyotes will kill anything they can. Deer, if the coyotes are hunting in a pack; dogs or cats; chickens...whatever. They must be fighting for food and hungry in the cold weather.

Oh My on finding out what the coyotes were up to last night Janet. I too would have been freaked out hearing something so close to the house. Watched too many "bad" movies and my mind would have taken me to a dark dark place. I especially wouldn't be going out once it starts getting dark. I'm sure the winter is hard on wildlife.
