Thawed Thursday

I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but the past couple of days have been pretty chilly! 2 nights ago at Bri's game it was so cold that people were bundled up in blankets and coats. It was cold! Anyway we are back to normal Spring weather now, currently 70 degrees and I have all my windows open , love it!

Going with Ashley to sign our kids up for Kindergarten today! Eeek! We are going to request that her daughter and Caiden be in the same class. Caiden is naughty and loud and outgoing, and her daughter Lexi is very shy and quiet. Hopefully she will help keep Caiden calmer and he will help her not to feel uncomfortable. I swear they are going to get married when they grow up lol, they love being together and are inseparable :)

Bri has 2 games tonight but I will probably only stay for the first one. The second one is a late game and Caiden usually gets tired and grouchy at the late one's, so I'll just come home with him. Not sure what to do about dinner, I guess Briauna and Michael will just eat at the ball field between games and Caiden and I will just eat something when we get home. Wishing everyone a great day!!

Good Morning Michelle! Laurie's pictures tend to come on sideways too when she posts. :) No worries. We can still see how cute Bri looks with her medal. :) Great picture! It's supposed to be 16C/60F here this afternoon so we aren't TOO far behind you and I too am ecstatic to be able to have my windows open. So cute at Lexi and Caiden being such good buds and how fun that Caiden will be in Kindergarten. :) Have a good time at Bri's game.

Aww, that's so cute about Caiden and Lexi! I hope they get into the same class :) Congrats to Bri on her medal, way to go!
I did a big shopping trip yesterday, and haven't decided yet what's for dinner. I have chicken breasts and pork loin chops to decide on. I usually have a meal plan when I shop, this time I shopped and need to have a meal idea! lol ;)
I'm hoping to do some gardening today and walk the dogs, leave the housework to tomorrow. The kids are off school, so no running around tomorrow, yay!
    Have a great day everyone!

Lexi and Caiden sound like a cute couple, Michelle:) I hope they do get into the same class. Very nice pic of Bri and her medal:) My goodness she is growing up fast! I had all my windows open yesterday afternoon, while making the meatballs for the spaghetti. There was a very pleasant breeze cooling down the house and the kitchen was not too hot while I was cooking.
No idea what we are having for dinner tonight. I did get everything done for the spaghetti and meatballs last night. LOL I go to the grocery store and it wasn't too busy yesterday afternodn thankfully. They had pork blade roasts on sale so, I picked up a couple of them and also two whole chickens which were on sale also. I was only going for tomato paste and a couple of things and I ended out leaving with $75.00 worth of things! When I drove into our driveway, my neighbour Frank (who is 96 and just gave up driving) wanted a drive downtown to his accountant to finalize his income tax. I drove him and waited which wasn't very long and then he wanted to pick up his mail at the mail boxes. Then I was finally able to get at making the meatballs and sauce and it was almost 4:00 PM.!!! I had everything simmering and things all cleaned up by the time Den came in! PHEW! Then the spaghetti and meatballs were able to simmer for a few hours until we ate later on. I had also picked up a loaf of Belgium Bread which we have never tried before OMG! it was awesome for garlic bread! My mind is a bit foggy today and I can't catch up with everything at the moment. Sorry about that!

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Have fun gardening Shona and good luck with your dinner plans. What's the temperature like for you? Why are the kids off school tomorrow? Jim and I had a big chat with Benjamin this morning (just started cooking breakfast after 11 and just, just finished now!) and he said it is Labour Day there on Saturday so the majority of people have the day off. Unfortunately Cram schools still run and even though he thinks he'll only have 8 kids to teach as opposed to 21, he has a full 9-5 schedule.
I'm waiting for a sale on chickens Joce. What store did you get yours from? Sobey's were selling chickens for $14 and up when I was in there yesterday which I find an atrocious price. I think Costco sells a three pack of whole chickens for something like $24-28 but when they come on sale I can generally get them for around $6. I'm totally out of them in my freezer stock and both Jim and I are craving a Rotisserie chicken. So nice of you to drive your neighbour back into town. Bet the spaghetti sauce was a welcome smell for Den when he came through the door. :)
I don't know what I'm making for dinner yet myself. Perhaps Butter Chicken or maybe BBQ'd hamburgers. We shall see.
Going to work on Ancestry.ca for a bit this morning and then maybe after lunch I'll head back outside to do some gardening.

    Hi all.
Michelle: so cute that the two youngsters get along so well! My youngest has a habit of picking the shy, newcomer, bashful child and showing him / her the ropes. Love it!

This may be a stupid question so forgive my lack of knowledge - but - if you change the angle of a photograph, to snap the picture vertically instead of horizontally on the phone -- would the camera / computer automatically up load it like it was default horizontal? Sorry if this is confusing. (I download photos from the computer iPhoto program first, so each picture can have the angle changed. Even when I goof and it looks like the scenery is sloping, I can crop and change the angle to make it appear straight. I need all the help I can get with anything remotely mechanical or electrical - LOL.)

Shona - Joce - Janet - good morning! I have also noticed an increase in chicken lately, following the beef prices upward! Pork is also getting ridiculous in price. Even the commissary is getting higher than my comfort zone. Although commissaries may be on the way out, if the gov. has its way. Too bad if they go, the only decent size / price store in this area is WalMart and there is no way it could handle the increased number of patrons. The other large store in the area is sky high....I would travel 45 miles to another town to the small Aldi before paying their prices.

Spaghetti for lunch today. Youngest GS has a school concert to do, so we will eat supper later, probably take him to the only place open in town afterward for a fast food meal. He did well in his swimming meet last weekend - still not fast enough to place high but he is improving and gaining speed. He loves the 100 meter race best.

Well, housework awaits. I best also get started on the spaghetti - three hungry men will want their lunch! See you later.

I do that too Joce, go in for a couple things, leave with a few bags! lol, I've never heard of Belgium bread before, sounds delish!!
Hi Janet, the weather here has been off and on. Today is sunny and warm, yesterday cold and rainy. I think we're in for some mild weather these next few days though :) The rain was nice yesterday as it's been so incredibly dry here with fire bans already in effect. When I walk on the grass it crunches under my feet, we've had a lot of wind too which is to blame I guess. Has it been nice there? The kids have a Professional Day twice a month, usually the first and last Friday unless it lands on a holiday. So the teachers still have to work on those days. Some schools do it a little differently and have half days every Friday, like her last school did. I think this works better, especially for Parents who need Day Care. I was sent a two week free trial to Ancestry, I keep meaning to do that, have fun!
I looked in the fridge and saw I bought some ground beef too, so I went by the BB dates. I'll use the beef first, I am thinking tacos. Makes it simple!
I think I'll drive to town and take the pups to the dog park, we don't go there very much since we moved to the country. That way I have an excuse to go to Starbucks, LOL! My only Yuppie vice I have left I think! teehee :)

SP Karen, hello! I agree, the price of pork and bacon is ridiculous! The only thing really decent here is the beef prices as I am in cattle country; and this former city girl use to never eat beef, now we eat it more than we really care too. But gotta love the Alberta beef! I am a convert :)

Drat, Janet! The whole chickens were on at Metro. However, they have just changed their sale days this week from Thursday to Thursday! The chickens I bought were just over $8.49 each! Even their largest ones were around $10.00 each! Now I wish I had bought more. I also bought more chicken quarters for $1.29 per pound and the large package of four quarters was about $3.49.

Gee your kids get a lot of PD day, Shona! Enjoy your walk with the dogs, I bet they will love dog park. Our Butcher Shop here only sells Alberta organic beef and it is expensive but it is awesome!

The price of meat and groceries today is ridiculous! The middleman makes all the money. The farmers don't see any increases at all!

Hi Shona! I used to be so organized with my shopping and meal planning, but have not been at all the past couple months. Have fun gardening :) Tacos sound good!

Wow you had a busy day yesterday Joce! That was very sweet of you to drive your neighbor. Lol at leaving with $75 worth of stuff, sounds like me :)

I don't understand why whole chickens are so expensive around you right now Janet? I get mine from the meat market organic (some still have a feather or 2 to pluck off lol) for about 5 something a piece. I would have to pass up on $14 one's. Butter chicken sounds delicious!

I'm not sure of the answer to your photo question Karen, but if someone knows, please share!

Okay got Caiden registered. They took him back to do some testing stuff for a long time it seemed like. I don't remember Briauna doing that when she registered for Kindergarten. I heard them telling some of the other parents to work on certain stuff over the summer and they didn't tell me anything so I guess he did good!

Yum on spaghetti for lunch Karen. I've been craving it lately. Fun, fun on getting to go see your Grandson's concert. :) That's great he did so well in his swim meet. Have fun at dinner.
Hi Shona! Yes, it's been nice here. About average for the end of April. (May tomorrow already YIPES!) Yum on tacos. I could go for that myself.Enjoy your Starbuck's and the dogs their dog park outing. :)
I don't go to Metro much anymore. You know you get in your 'circles'. I'll just keep my eyes out for the next chicken special Joce. Worst case I'll go get a three pk. at Costco. Wow on $5 chickens Michelle. That'd be great. Rolling eyes on pre-kindergarten kids having to work on certain things over summer....THEY'RE KIDS! Off my soap box. Glad Caiden got all registered. I bet he's pumped. :)
Decided I didn't feel like Butter chicken. Plus I got caught up on Ancestry.ca and I didn't even take the chicken out to thaw until like 3 p.m. LOL. Am going to do Luisa's
    Chicken Katsu
instead even though Jim just told me he doesn't care for that sauce anymore because it's too sweet. Argh. He can have his plain or add chili sauce or whatever, but I love that stuff. :)

I think the trend is to test for reading readiness, Michelle - see if they know the alphabet, etc. -- stuff they used to teach in first grade now they learn in kindergarten. Did the kids get into the same class?

Joce and Shona, I like beef, also. TGIF restaurant chain in Springfield had the best 6 oz. sirloin, bacon wrapped, that I have had in a long time. It comes with bread and two sides and if I recall, the price was 10.49 or 11.49. We will definitely go back again. I really need to check prices again the next commissary trip to see what sirloing steak is running now.
