'Tis Thursday Today

    Good Morning Everyone!

Making LD his dehydrating chicken strips yesterday worked like a dream grinding up the chicken in the food processor and then making strips with the jerky gun. He is able to chew them so much better as they are not as tough for his little mouth with it's missing teeth (he lost about half of his teeth because of dental disease). And the portion that I mixed with ground up frozen wild blueberries were a hit too! Nice way to add more nutrition and I can't wait to try other fruits/veggies.

Laurie ... what about shopping on-line for a summery pocketbook for your mom. Ebags.com is great sight. Not sure if you are looking for a particular designer or a particular look.

Just a routine day here. Have Kenpo this afternoon and will run an errand or two when out and grab something to eat as well.
It's still warm and humid too.

That's great that LD was very appreciative of your efforts and your new kitchen toy Linda! :) You could have a side line making and selling those along with your soap! :) Good Luck with Kenpo and errands and hope you have something fun to eat out!

Our snow has virtually melted overnight! It rained and rained and rained and rained and it's already 5C/41F. It's supposed to rain more throughout the day and overnight as well. So weird.

I have an ultrasound appointment first thing this morning as my Dr. suspects I have a large kidney stone lodged. Will go out for something to eat after that as I'm required to fast this morning. Have a couple little errands to run. If the rain isn't a major downpour Jim and I could bring in our patio furniture and move the planters. Not a clue what to make for dinner.

Wishing everyone a great day. How did it get to be not only Thursday already but also Dec. 1st???????

Good Luck at the doctor today Janet. Hope all goes well. Lucky you on the rain ... it could have been snow, right. We need some rain here.

Good morning. I'm so happy that it worked for you Linda and I'm sure that LD appreciates it. I know several people that make their dog food and it's so much healthier.
Have fun at Kenpo and good luck with your errands.
Good luck with the ultrasound Janet. The snow is almost gone here too.
Not much going on here today. Dinner will be fish of some sort, whatever jumps out of the freezer.

Morning! Happy to hear LD liked his chicken strips and that it all worked out well Linda :) It's fun getting a new gadget!

Wow on all your rain Janet, hope you will be able to get in your patio furniture. Good luck at your doctor appt. and hope you get some food in your system fast afterward.

    Hi Bren!

It's another chilly day! Michael needs a haircut, so he will do that now that he finally has a day off, but he will be sleeping for half of it, so it's not much of a "day off". Then we will get as much of the Christmas decorations up as possible. Hopefully all of them, including the lights on the house! I got the kids a new advent calendar that we will start tonight here is the link, it's cute.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDMH91Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We will also start the Elf on the Shelf as well :)

Bri has her school dance recital tonight, so we have family coming to watch. Not sure what dinner will be, maybe eat out? Have a great day everyone!!

Hi Linda, that's great LD likes the jerky! I buy the dehydrated beef liver for Jersey as she has missing teeth too. Great to know the homemade jerky isn't too tough, I love that jerky gun--so neat!

Good luck with your ultrasound today Janet. Hopefully everything is a-ok! I know, December came fast this year!

Hi Bren, lol @ what ever jumps out of the freezer. I picture you catching a fish ;)

Hi Michelle, that's a cute advent calendar. My MIL made us one very similar to that except each date has a pocket, so we can put whatever we want in it. I like that instead of the chocolate ones. I never did get into the elf on the shelf, it looks like fun!
Good luck with all your Christmas decorating!

It's snowing like crazy out there right now, and against my better judgment I drove the kids to school. Now I wish I didn't because the snow hasn't stopped and it's wet and heavy :S Pete sensed my anxiety and phoned me, he said if it gets bad he can pick them up for me! I'm still driving the van and he has the Nissan since his truck is in pieces. Thankfully I don't have anywhere to go today. We might order some pizza tonight from my favorite Greek place for dinner. I haven't baked anything with my apples yet, so that's probably what I'll do today...Baking Day! :D

Have a great day everyone :)

I am glad the Jerky Gun worked out for LD's treats, Linda. Knowing what is in them makes all the difference. A friend of mine has a farm and a registered Kennel and she makes all her dog and cat food. She grows a pumpkin patch just for that purpose and grinds them up with venison and a bunch of other good things and she has enough dog food to last most of the year. All her dogs look so healthy and happy with gorgeous shiny coats. i am sure that makes all the difference. Have fun a Kenpo and enjoy your lunch out.

I am loving that the snow has melted, Janet. Lol it can snow for Christmas and then stop for the rest of the year:) I hope everything goes well with your Ultrasound today.

Not much going on here today, either, Bren. Lol I hope you enjoy whatever jumps out of your freezer. Thanks for the Apple Pie recipe:) I think I will use that one b/c it is easy to do.

I hope Bri's dance recital goes well tonight and good luck with getting your Christmas decorations up, Michelle. Thanks for the Apple Pie recipe:) I think I will use that one b/c it is easy to do.

Ugh on the snow, Shona! I am glad Pete is going to pick the kids up from school so you don't have to worry.

We are having Stew for dinner which is easy for me to do and it does suit a dreary rainy day.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It all went fine. The people were nice, didn't have to wait. Yes I have lots of kidney stones in there but have to wait for the results to be sent to my Dr. before I know anything more.

Decided on fish tacos for dinner. Must go thaw some haddock. Picked up some tortillas at Lone Star to use.

I can actually picture fish jumping out of your freezer Bren! :)

Have lots of fun getting the Christmas decorations up Michelle. The Advent calendar is adorable. What kinds of things do you put in the pockets and I guess you have to put two each. :) I saw THE cutest thing yesterday, an Advent calendar for a man (or a woman who likes beer). It was a fancy Christmassy decorated box and under each cardboard tab you could put a different craft beer (or cider). Thought it was very fun and was tempted to do it for Jim but if you think that each Craft beer is around the $2.50 mark at least then you're looking at $60 which is a little pricey for an advent calendar. :) Fun at starting Elf on the Shelf too. Hope Bri's dance recital goes swimmingly. Enjoy!

Good luck with the snow Shona and indeed, take Pete up on his offer to pick the kids up tonight. Enjoy your pizza. I haven't had pizza in ages it seems like. Did Pete hear his score on his test yet? Have fun baking!

Stew is a good choice for dinner tonight Joce!

Went for breakfast at "Rockin' Johnny's" after my ultrasound. I had a Ham and cheese omelette with toast and hash browns and Jim had a toasted BLT. They give you SO much food though and you can't just order one egg and something or a one egg omelette. They didn't even have a kid's menu with smaller quantitates. We brought home the extra toast for the crows and Jim had a bit of my omelette. I only ate half of the hash browns. Hit the spot though. I was STARVIN'! :)

Bought some stocking stuffers for my Mom, some fuzzy soft slippers, a Terry's chocolate orange and a nice calendar of Ottawa. Got a few outdoor decorations I can add to my planters and such. The stores are busy!

Went to Farm Boy to look for a turkey breast to do your Crockpot turkey recipe Linda but they only had a HUGE one for $24 and Jim and I would never eat that much. They did however have a gi-normous turkey thigh for $10 and I picked that up. What do you think? Could I sub it? Have to run out and help Jim outside but I'll go back and peruse your recipe afterwards and see. :) I'm excited.

Michelle, again Kudos to your work taking over IMI. I never did challenges before but it's nice and it does make me make a point of looking at new recipes and trying things out. I'm loving the cookie swap idea. It's really fun to see what everyone makes in their own house for their Christmas traditions. Good job. :)

Shona, that advent calendar does have pockets that you put all the little velcro snowmen in and the kids take one out each day and place it at the top :) You could even slip a small piece of chocolate in with each on as well, but I'm not, the Elf brings them goodies each day, sometimes chocolate, so I think that's enough for them.

Hope you enjoy the apple pie recipe Joce!

Well got the decorations down from the attic, now is the fun part, putting them up :-) Michael doesn't seem to think it's fun though, haha, although I agree, his part of putting the lights on the roof doesn't sound appealing :P

OK Linda! I've perused your recipe again.
    http://www.melskitchencafe.com/slow-cooker-turkey-with-no-fuss-gravy-simple-thanksgiving-solution/
I see no reason I shouldn't be able to use a huge turkey thigh instead of the breast but here's a few questions for you since you've made this a few times already.
#1 Do you actually use a 6-8 lb. turkey breast? I love that the turkey cooks with the carrot, onion and celery. That gravy has got to be nummy afterwards.
#2 Did you use a low salt or no salt broth and then just salt the breast? As she says, you can fix it afterwards. I could use my homemade broth with no salt in it initially, or maybe with an envelope of low sodium chicken bouillon. I like that you used broth and just skip the water.
#3 My turkey thigh is 2 lbs. 6 oz. I'm tempted just to keep the gravy/broth amounts the same as what she calls for as then I'd get lots of gravy afterwards or do you think I should half it since her recipe calls for a 6-8 lb. pc. of chicken. I don't want my little thigh to taste boiled I guess.
I think we'll be running around a lot on Saturday so may do it then.

Good luck with your Dr. Appt. Janet. Wayne and our daughter have had the kidney stones and they are no fun.

I am sure LD appreciates his chicken jerky, Linda. It definitely is better than commercial. We feed Fritz Arfjeeno and cats Blue Buffalo salmon and they all have glossy shiny coats. It is worth the extra.

Shona, I agree on Pete picking up the kids! I don't do ice any more and snow is a close second.

    Hi Michelle, Bren, Joce.

They are hinting at snow Sunday but if we get it it will be a few flakes. Also Wednesday. I doubt it....the weather dudes are so quick to forecast snow and 90% of the time it never materializes. Or just a few flakes.

GS is entering the obnoxious pre-teen phase....getting a bit of a mouthy attitude. Told daughter that he may get a swat in the mouth if he keeps it up. That may be difficult due to his braces so I may have to aim elsewhere. He has noticed the existence of girls, which one captures his fancy changes rapidly. Don't envy daughter at all. We are taking him swimming tonight, so his Grandpa can witness it for himself. Heh heh heh! [Evil Grin].

Not much happening today. Should reach 47F for a high. Eating at Arby's this evening. I think! The McD in Rolla is not that great.

    Hello everyone

It does feel weird to not have Rachel here. I'm slowly getting used to it. She is too. In the beginning she texted me a lot and didn't want to stay but now I'm only getting one or two texts a day. Now she likes it and she is staying. She texted me today a few doggie pictures. Today is pet therapy day at the college. It's labeled as pet the puppies but very few puppies mostly older dogs they bring in So the students can destress.
I have looked online for the purse for my mom but she is very picky,
I had planned on making Shepard pie for dinner but not in the mood really lol but I'll probably still make it.

Have you seen the wine advent calendar. It's like $100. Kind of pricey.
Heartwarming story. A Wilmington resident posted on the town Facebook page that she volunteered at a women's shelter and that they desperately needed diapers. She simply asked if anyone had old boxes lying around to drop them off on her porch. Now you have to be a Wilmington resident to be on the page so that's all that can see it. She just posted a picture of her living room completely full of diapers. People had shipped via Amazon and dropped off on her porch. She posted just to say thank you and how amazed she was by the outpouring of support.

Whoops somehow I missed you earlier Janet! Yeah all of the little snowman, houses and trees at the top of the calendar in the picture have velcro on the back of them so you can place them wherever you want :) Love the sound of that beer/cider calendar but holy smokes on the $$! How did the ultra sound go? Glad lunch was great! Thanks, glad you like the cookie swap idea, but it was really Shona's idea, can't take the credit :)

Hi Karen! Hope it snows for you, I sure would like some this year, I think Bri was 1 or 2 last time it snowed, Caiden has NEVER seen it!

Gotta finish getting ready for the recital, got her a little bouquet of flowers for after that I know she'll like. Michael and I decided that we are going to either go out to eat afterward or pick up food and bring it home, just kind of depends on how late it is and how tired we are. Have a good evening!!

Hope you get all your decorating up and done today Michelle. I love the Elf on the Shelf and see the cutest ideas for it on Pinterest. Have fun with it! Wishing Bri well for her recital tonight.

Has it stopped snowing yet Shona? Pizza sounds great! I really want to bake that apple bread you made recently, hoping to get to it this weekend.

Stew sounds great too Joce. Do you serve it with dumplings? in a bread bowl? bread on the side? What's your favorite?

Sorry to hear about the kidney stones Janet? Is there anything you can do to prevent them?
For the turkey crock pot recipe I've always done a breast, one between 5-6 pounds and even that is sometimes hard to get in the crock the way they call for. I have to crush the breast bone down to be able to get the lid on. I'm sure a big ole thigh would work ... maybe even two.
I use regular broth and I use Turkey because this time of year it's easy to find. I don't use salt then and adjust the broth to taste after it cooks. I use the entire 32 oz carton and don't add the water which is still more than the recipe calls for. I do like as much of the meat to be in liquid so it's nice and moist. I don't find that it tastes boiled because the broth is so rich and yummy but the meat is softer than roasting and is fall apart tender. I don't fill the crock up to the top with liquid because as the turkey cooks it creates more. Perhaps 2 cups of broth will be plenty and reduce the rest of the ingredients accordingly?

    Hi Bren, Laurie, and Karen.

Oh my on GS Karen. I don't know what to say.

Love that they have pet therapy day at Rachel's College. That's super cool. I would LOVE a wine advent calendar. Awwww....at the nice people of Wilmington jumping in to help the lady at the Woman's shelter like that. That is a very heartwarming story.

I have to wait to hear the results of the ultrasound from my Dr. Michelle, I suspect she'll call early Monday. And you're right I should also give big kudos to Shona for the Cookie Swap idea. GREAT IDEA SHONA!!!!!! :) WOW that Caiden has never seen snow. That's just so hard for me to get my head around. Very sweet on getting Bri a little bouquet of flowers. :)

NOM Linda at stew in a bread bowl. The main thing I can do to prevent stones from getting lodged is to drink lots of water so that they pass when they are small. My Mother has been plagued by them as was her Mother before her. Certain foods supposedly contribute to their formation....I've been told not to drink black tea, strawberries, beets and spinach. Which is hilariously funny because I really don't like vegetables and two of my favourites are beets and spinach. That being said there's no way I eat enough that it would cause anything to happen. Anyway......
Thank you so much for more tips for the crockpot turkey. So excited to try it.

Nope, hasn't stopped snowing! We were suppose to get less than an inch of snow, and stop by the afternoon, but it hasn't stopped at all! Pete phoned part way home and was stuck on the highway as many people were going in the ditch. So I had to get Sophia from school, but he made it to Colter's school in time. Oh, and Pete did pass his test!! :)

Stew sounds like a great supper Joce. :)

Your breakfast out sounds awesome Janet. I didn't know that about the beets, strawberries etc with kidney stones. Hopefully your ultrasound is all clear this time.

How cute the Elf brings a treat for the kids Michelle! The cookie exchange was just an idea, your doing all the work posting everything and deserve a pat on the back! :)

Oh my, Karen, and I know that stage all too well and have a 9 yr old in that phase now. I must say the girl is worse than the boy was, lol ...I use the 'bribe and take away' routine, seems to work on them! :D

Hi Laurie, what a nice story about the woman's shelter. It restores faith in your community when stuff like that happens! How cool to have a pet therapy day at College, I wish more schools did that that.

Pete's home with the pizza, gotta go eat!
Have a great night everyone :)
