To the Cottage Thursday....

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Busy day ahead on my end,
Jim is heading to the cottage and I'm having a friend over for lunch. Going to make Joce's
Crepes Stuffed With Ham, Swiss Cheese Asparagus
    for her and also some
    Gazpacho
which I'll serve in China Teacups. :)
I have enough Stuffed Pork tenderloin from last night for a meal so will probably have that for my dinner although I'll check the state of my bean sprouts and bokchoy that I bought the other day, and if they are starting to be sad, I'll use them tonight in
    Salmon Bibimbap

My house needs a desperate good clean but I won't have time to do much except sweep the floor and get the dust off the dining room table!

Woke up to a very large Doe and 21 Wild turkeys in the front yard this morning.

Laurie, if you're lurking, pop in and tell us how you're making out with Rachel off at College!

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Just a usual morning here. Nothing special happening as of yet. The crepes and gazpacho sound so fancy Janet ... like a 5 star restaurant and I'm sure will be amazing and just perfect for lunch.
How cool is that to wake up to 21 wild turkeys and a doe! Enchanting and magical to live within it.

There must be a low pressure weather system hanging in as I've had annoying sinus pressure the last couple days that has been waking me up earlier than my norm.

That's about it here. Hoping to hear what everyone else is up to.

Morning Linda! It's 6C/32F at my house right now. Fall is definitely in the air!!! Joce's crepe recipe is surprisingly simple yet you're right, it looks and sounds fancy/aka a lot of effort. :) Sorry to hear about your sinuses giving you grief. :( Feel better!

Good morning all. Wow, Janet! I wish that I were going to your house for lunch. Both recipes sound amazing as does the salmon one.
What a sight that must have been. Did you get pic's?
And I hope that it remains that way Linda! No more trouble with those pesky neighbours! So sorry about your sinus. I get low pressure headaches.
Not much new here. We're going to look at light fixtures for the kitchen this aft. Dinner will probably be salmon. Off to work but I'll check in later.

Thanks for the reminder, Janet. I have been meaning to make crepes so I can freeze them and have them handy for many things. Enjoy your visit with your GF.

I hope your sinuses clear up, Linda. As Janet mentioned the crepes are very easy to make.
Good luck looking for light fixtures for your kitchen, Ben.

Nothing much happening here today. I will have to drop over to my doctor's office to pick up prescriptions for Den and then run them out to the drugstore. I don't have a clue what we are having for dinner yet?

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Hello Everyone!

Chilly morning here too, but we've been getting into the 20's in the late afternoon which is nice! :) Your lunch sounds perfect Janet. Lol, I'd get a kick out of seeing wild turkey's! We supposedly have them in Alberta, but I've never seen one. Enjoy your visit and alone time tonight :)

HI Linda, sorry to hear about your neighbours, ugh, I remember what that is like--we've had our fair share of crazy neighbours over the years! Hopefully you'll get a sale soon and all will be calm and quiet again!

Hi Bren, sorry you can't find what you want in your price range! That's how I felt about the kitchen reno too! If I had it my way we'd have marble (or marble looking stone) counter tops with a greyish glass backsplash and totally different floors etc...We lucked out on little things since I scoured for sales. Like our $300 brushed nickel faucet we got for $99 at Rona, plus an extra $10 off on a weekend scratch event sale ;) You might find a good 50% off sale on backsplash tile etc...just keep looking :)

Hi Joce, accck, I wonder how on earth someone got a hold of your credit card! You need that 3 digit code on the back of the card to order online. Hopefully your computer wasn't hacked or someone got into your mail if the bank sent you a new card awhile back? Hopefully it all gets worked out, what a pain!

I'm about to run out the door, I have some books that I ordered ready to be picked up at Chapters. Then I have to do a big grocery shopping trip. I didn't get out the other day and we're out of our staple foods. Hopefully I'll have time to take the dogs for a walk before getting the kids. Then we are tackling the lawn and weeds before dinner. Dinner (I think) will be mini Italian meatloaves stuffed with a good quality creamy mozzarella, with garlic-parmesan mashed taters and peas on the side.

    Have a great day everyone!

Hi Bren! No, I didn't take pictures of the turkeys and Doe this morning although I certainly have a ton of very similar pictures. We feel ourselves to be very fortunate living out here in the country where the animals nonchalantly stroll around and pretty much totally ignore us. Have fun shopping for light fixtures!

I had five crepes frozen Joce and so I now have 1 left which I look forward to using tomorrow morning for breakfast with a poached egg, ham and cheese. :) I put Havarti cheese, Black forest ham and sauteed asparagus in the ones for lunch. They're so easy to put together yet look special. Love that! Good luck with your errands. Oh, I meant to mention to you just for fun. I used to work with a wonderful man at the Home Hardware store in Kirkland Lake years ago. He has passed on now but his daughter Sheri just moved to Perth within the last couple of months. She's an accountant. Her Mom wrote me recently and said she'd visited Sheri and how much both of them were enamoured with Perth and how beautiful it is!

I guess that was one of the main draws to moving out to the country now you mention it Shona....so we wouldn't have to bother with neighbours. We can't see anyone on any side of us. That being said, the new neighbours who moved in across the street have VERY loud dogs that bark A LOT! And that's annoying. :( Have fun at Chapter's. That's a dangerous store for me to go into. No will power. :) Have a good grocery shop too. Your dinner sounds lovely.

Not sure how close you can get to the barking dog problem Janet but something like the Dog Silencer may be worth the investment. I'd put one up if it could emit within range.

That's hilarious Linda! "The discreet neighbour pack". LOLOL. Good idea, and I'd seriously contemplate it but we live on an 8 acre property and those neighbours live on 25 acres, although the house is closer to us than at the back of their property. I looked at the specs and it looks like 300 ft. is the max and they'd be a lot further than that away. Thanks though for the idea. It was a good one.

Had a lovely catch up with my girlfriend and she LOVED the crepes. She's the one who's daughter just got married in Iceland so she got me all caught up on their trip and the wedding. Had a lovely visit. She doesn't like gazpacho though so we just had the crepes.

Hi to everyone. I am still alive, just over busy.

We have been running amok the last couple of days and this is finally quiet and just me And two cats on my lap. Fritz had to go out, then curled up on Wayne's recliner and fell asleep. So I had time to sit and write before the drier is done. Sigh.

Daughters last surgical procedure went well, just a local anesthetic. She is taking GS swimming so we don't have to go to Rolla.

Went to Joplin to look at RV, saw two we liked and one he liked but I think I have convinced him not to get it. Will go to the RV show in Springfield this weekend and re-look at one, look at some others. Want to check reviews on construction etc. before we make up our minds. Too much running around!

Boo on the neighbors! No fun when credit card info is compromised.....happened twice to us. They don't tell where it happened. We figured the last one was Wendy's because they were hacked and made the news. So we now try to use cash if possible.

Janet, you know what happens in rural life! We started with 7 acres then went to 80! My ultimate win-the-powerball dream is a house in the middle of 1,000 acres. Ha ha ha. Dreaming on.

Drier beeped so have to go. See you later.

Hey all ... guess what!! I didn't know the past couple weeks of review in Kenpo class was actually our test and today our teacher passed us and both DH and I are 2nd degree Brown Belts! DH asked me how I felt and I told him I don't feel like it's anything special because I never will take for granite my training and will always work to be better and better. There is always room for improvement. It's not about the belt, never was, and never will be. It's respect for the art, training, and the ability to protect myself if needed. Next level is 1st degree Brown, then Black.
DH crushed my big toe today and split the nail down the middle and broke it half way down the other side. OUCH!! again. I don't see any pedicures in the near future until the damage grows out but perhaps I do see I nice piece of jewelry ... hint, hint.

O.M.G. Shona and Janet on your low temps already, though what a welcomed relief from summer.
Hope you find some nice light fixtures Bren.

Advice about credit cards. If you can scratch out or marker over the security number on the back and write it down someplace else. If someone actually does hold your card to run (say at a restaurant) and takes it out of your site they may be able to capture your card number but will be missing a vital piece of information. It may help and then again because so much happens with on-line hacking it may not.

Good to hear DD surgeries are finished and all is looking well for her Karen. Prayers that it continues so.

Here's today's funny. I told you all I taped a smiley face to the small mirror that was my birds that now sits on my window ledge. Today when we left for Kenpo class I set up our security camera (the Nest) in my office window and placed it facing out. Caught the neighbor on security camera walking between the houses taking a "look". I guess curiosity got the best of him about Mr. Smiley face and he couldn't help himself. SMILE ... you're on candid camera!! and there's nothing you can do about it. There was no reason he needed to walk between the houses today. He wasn't doing any work on his house ... he got caught! mind you there is only about 12 feet between our homes wall to wall.

That sounds so nice Janet. I would love to move to the country and have lots of fresh air and few neighbours. Yum on the crepe for breakfast. My neighbour smokes chicken breasts and shaves them really thin to put into her crepes. I must make them one of these days. Grrr on the barking dog.
That gadget is so cool Linda. I work with dogs but I still dislike barking. We discouraged Annie from barking and she seldom does.
Nice on your quiet day Karen. I could use a few of those.
That's almost exactly the look that I'm going for Shona. We looked at glass tile today and found some that we really like, they have very subtle hues of blue.
That is outrageous Linda, no wonder that your anxious to leave.
We had much better luck today. I found the garbage/compost bins that I don't love but can live with and we ordered the pendant lights for over the island.
Working with the designer isn't getting any easier. I emailed her two days ago and asked that she contact me before changing anything. Today I received an email with the new changes. I've had it and have decided to contact the company that she works for and ask for someone else. I thought that this would be enjoyable but it's been nothing but frustration.

Good for you Bren! If she isn't doing the job you need/want done and you tried then she has only herself to blame when you request to work with someone else. We've had to do that for one reason or another and I've learned some time ago not to waste too much time and just move on. We may be firing our realtor tomorrow. I'm finding it hard to believe our house has been on the market for over a month and we haven't had one person express an interest so this week I asked my sister to help me with a test. Long story short on Tuesday my sister set up an appointment, on-line, to see our house. Someone from the corporate location called her and emailed her that the appointment was set and that our realtor would be in touch with her to confirm the appointment and where to meet being my sister isn't "working" with anyone. We have yet to hear from our realtor which leads me to believe she is unaware of what is going on. I have no idea why, but it's not my problem. The fake appointment is set for tomorrow at noon and tomorrow at 1 minute past noon if I haven't heard from my realtor she will be fired. This is no laughing matter. How many more calls or inquiries has she not responded to????? for what ever reason. I don't believe it's her that is failing but the company and their communication to her. Again, it can't be my problem.

Good to see you Karen! Glad to hear your daughter's surgery went well. Fun @ RV shopping. A house in the middle of 1000 acres eh? For sure we then wouldn't hear the neighbour's dogs barking. :)

Congratulations on your second degree Brown Belts Linda. That's awesome. Oh my goodness at your toe though. Ai yi yi!!!! LOL @ the candid camera. :) And goodness on your realtor and the fake appointment and all that. What a drag for you. :(

Smoked chicken would be amazing in crepes Bren! And it's not just one barking dog. It sounds like a lot of barking dogs. Bigger dogs, deeper barks. LOL. Hurray on finding compost bins and pendant fixtures. We put two pendant fixtures over our kitchen island. Initially I had wanted three but the store only had two left so we went with two. And of course....I still feel it's too dark and I should have gone elsewhere and found a different style and got three. :) Good for you at asking for a new designer. We did that twice ourselves now that I think of it. One kitchen designer and one bathroom designer. Sometimes you just can't 'gell' with someone and it doesn't work no matter how hard you try.

Getting hungry. Gonna go nuke my leftovers.
