Tuesday's Thaw!

Good Morning Everyone! It is a balmy -1C/30F at the moment here in Ottawa. What a laugh. The temps are going up and down like a yo-yo!!!! Jim is going to use the roof rake to bring down some of the snow on the eaves this afternoon to lessen the chance of an avalanche off the roof.

After breakfast we're going to head into town and run some errands. Need to go to Costco (will look for Hannah brand hummus Linda. :) ) and might continue to look for doors for the basement rec room. I have two boxes full of Benjamin's old books that we will drop off at the Library. Feels awesome to be able to clear something out and have it be re-used.

Karen, hope you and Wayne are feeling better this morning.

How did the Softball meeting go Michelle?

I imagine Den headed back in to work today Joce? We got a lot of snow but you'd think the roads should be clear by now.

I did manage to PVR that episode of the Secrets of St. Augustine (can't remember right now what exactly it was called but you know what I mean) :), but haven't watched it yet. When do you think you'll head there again Kimmer?

Not sure what to make for dinner this evening. Was going to make Chicken burgers but Jim tells me he's not fond of them. Argh. (I've made them for us numerous times and am only now hearing this review) :) Will pick something up while we're out and work with that.

We've got a Sens Hockey Game to watch tonight. I may go through another box or two in the basement this afternoon.

    Wishing everyone a great Tuesday!

    Good Morning Everyone.

Uugghhh. I have been up since 2:00 a.m. Yesterday when we went out to eat I had an Espresso Martini and the dang thing kept me up all night. I fell asleep around 11:00 p.m. but then woke up around 2:00 and was wide awake. I laid there for about an hour hoping to fall back asleep but nope so I got up and read till about 4:30 and then dozed off but it was a restless sleep. In that I do very little caffeine I should have known better but the restaurant we went to has THE best Espresso Martinis and I just had to have one.
No plans today but will go to the gym later in the afternoon. Not sure what to make for dinner yet.
Winter is over here! We will be in the mid 70s today and by week's end the 80s(f). It was rough (LOL!!).

It does feel good to clean up and out Janet and especially finding a new home for things. Don't you just love having made something over and over only to find out someone doesn't like it ... I get that here too. I guess one's taste changes.
Enjoy getting out today and hope the tub of hummus isn't too big if you decide to buy it. Don't forget to look for the Better Than Bouillon too. If you like history you will love the show about Florida. Hope your hockey team wins tonight.

Good morning Janet. We never have enough snow to pull it from the roof...Aargh! It is foggy and damp outside. The freezing fog has caused school cancellations in the counties South of us. It is still foggy outside. The cats decided a two minute outside trip was sufficient and the three brave ones retreated into the house within ten minutes. Mauser stays inside even on warm days.

OK GR lost my post and the iPad froze. Grrr! Probably our slow internet.

SP Linda, the occasional Espresso martini side effects are probably worth it! Ha ha. Don't suppose they could use decaf espresso, but then I don't use decaf ever! Ha ha!
The Landlord Bert Presence dental pattern sound really pretty. We have Noritake Eileen (? Number) and it is nice, plus I got it on sale for one third price due to closeout about 35 years ago.

Good luck at Costco, Janet. Nice, you are able to donate some books to your library. Not sure if we are able to do that here or not. It would be great if they did b/c we have so many bookcases full of books it is crazy! Den is an avid reader but never seems to want to get rid of them. I hope your driving is O.K. it was quite greasy when I was out earlier.

Oh, my goodness on the Espresso Martini keeping you up all night, Linda. I hope you can have a bit of a nap later.

Freezing fog would not be good to drive in at all, Karen. I hate driving in fog it is so scary.

I was supposed to have an appointment for an ultrasound at 4:00 P.M. today but the hospital called me at quarter to eight this morning to ask me if I could be there by 10.00 A.M. so I had to get my act in gear early to get there on time. Fortunately, I had only drunk half a cup of coffee when they called and they said that would be alright. I was supposed to fast for 6 hours before the ultrasound so that ended out being better for me. We are having pork chops for dinner. Not sure of sides at the moment.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Joce ... many senior homes or centers take books. Wow on you getting out of the house so quick because of a changed appointment. Good though to get it done earlier in the day instead of then having to fight traffic later in the day when everyone is getting off from work. Pork chops sound good.

DH will have a grilled steak and salad and I'm going to make pasta for me with salad. Surprisingly I'm still on my feet.

Good afternoon/evening and hello to all. Don't think we quite made it to 80F today here Linda but it was certainly a much warmer day than we have had. Chloe has been in her "GLORY" being able to stalk both the pool deck and back porch perimeters, lol! She even napped out by the pool on her favorite chair this afternoon. Nice you were able to donate the books Janet. Were I used to work, we had a library for the residents to use. Every couple of months or so the volunteer librarians would clean up the shelves and donate the books to the local jail. On occasion I would bring some of mine in and throw those in too. The jail authorities were always happy to receive them and said the inmates really appreciated people doing that. They in turn would donate used books on to one of the prisons in the state. Just because you're incarcerated doesn't mean you can't be well read, lol. But joking aside, it was always a nice thing to do.

I was up too at all hours of the night last night. Had coffee in the afternoon later than I usually do and then had two glasses of soda, which I rarely do! I'm not a big soda drinker but for some reason I just wanted some. Will know better next time. Didn't even think about it at the time. This evening however, I will have some wine to relax as it's been quite a busy day. I should sleep like a baby, lol!

Speaking of tonight........it's Tuesday and my cheese night! Getting back into that routine now since the holidays are over. Usually take a break from it since my fondue party at Christmas is, of course, full of cheese!

Tacos on the slate for tomorrow per request of Benny. Tonight they will eat up a bit of leftover meatloaf and lasagna soup if they want. Meant to warm some of the lasagna up for lunch today but just didn't get to it. Didn't have as much left over as I thought I would as Benny ate two bowls, Hubs ate two bowls and Cayce's girl came home with him after his game and ate some too! Good deal! I do not have that posted here Linda but I use a very basic, no frills recipe and will try to get around to that. Been wanting to start posting recipes again, just have too many time constraints unfortunately.

    Hope all enjoy their evening.

Oh goodness at waking up at 2 a.m. Linda, and not being able to get back to sleep! I'd be a mess! I had a crummy night sleep myself but no where near as bad as you. I couldn't fall asleep and didn't until after 1:30 and then I woke up a lot during the night. Not even sure why. And I didn't even get a Expresso Martini to cause it!!!!! :) I've never had one of those. Must go google it.No luck at Costco with either the Hannah Hummus or the larger jar of Bouillon mix. Costco had two brands but not the one you mentioned. Sabra was one and I forget the other, it was a french name. Ai yi yi at 85F!

Good idea on the decaf espresso martini Karen and I too split a gut over the spellcheck translation of the china pattern name. ROFL!

The roads weren't bad for us Joce. The library seemed quite pleased with our haul. Hope your ultrasound went well and that is was just routine checking on you. I got a GREAT deal on porkchops at Costco. Big thick ones which I actually cut in half when I got home. I got 18 of them and I paid $12! Got three pork tenderloins at Sobey's for less than $11 so it was good day to buy Pork. :)

Our fireplace is backing up on us. JIm went up on the extension ladder this afternoon and there was a creosote build up on the chimney cap which he cleared. He called Embers in Perth who are awesome to deal with and they're sending someone on Tues. next week. We'll get them to do a thorough cleaning on both the fireplace and the pellet stove. Luckily it's very mild right now so we're quite comfortable without the fire.

Very sweet to picture Chloe basking out by the pool Kimmer. She's fit well into the family hasn't she! That's interesting about donating books to a Jail. I'd have never thought about that. No jails that close by, which is fine by me. I have an active imagination. LOL. YUM on cheese fondue!!!! Hope you get a better sleep tonight as well!

Laurie, don't know if you'll see this but by when does Becca have to choose where she's going to school next year?

Had a good jaunt into town. Went to Home Depot and got another quote on double french doors for the rec room. Wooden that we can stain and varnish with clear glass beveled panels.Got some veggies and goodies at Costco then went to Oxhead Restaurant for lunch. Both of us had the Pho. SO good. Popped in to Chapters as I needed a couple of birthday cards. I peeked at their Christmas sale items and actually found this neat table top twig twee with LED lights. On sale for $11.50, reg. $39.50. It is now happily sitting up on my fireplace mantelpiece. LOL. I can use it all winter long. I'm tickled. :)

Had some Rouladen frozen in the basement so am going to bake that up in the oven along with a couple of potatoes and maybe saute some asparagus. Hockey game's on at 7:30.

    It was a nice day.

    Hi everyone
Yes becca has to decide which school. So far she has been accepted to Roger Williams in Rhode Island, St Michael’s in Vermont, Framingham State, Salem State University Of New England in Maine, and her top choice so far UMass Amherst. She has not heard back yet from Suffolk University or Bentley. St. Michael’s is far but our neighbor goes there and they gave Rebecca a huge scholarship so it’s still kind of in the running.
It felt balmy today at 40 degrees after the weather we have been having.
Tried a new recipe from Skinnytaste.com it was a Sicilian casarol it was very good.
I can’t get the link to post but I posted on FB.

    Hi, everyone.

So cute watching Chloe race around! She sounds adorable!

Linda, my iPad is possessed. I type, proofread, hit post, and it loses its mind and changes words. If I don't look again, very strange things result. Enjoy. I must charge my laptop....the typos are fewer!

Janet, your twig tweet sounds so cute. Definitely good to have chimney and stove cleaned.

The forecast is for more cold temps. Expecting another morning of fog, 58 F high Wednesday, steady drop in temperature ending in a low of 8 F Saturday.

    Have a nice evening.

Coddling a cat is no way a bad thing Kimmer. Infact, you're a lucky lady to have one to coddle!!!!

40F/4C is pretty nice January weather IMHO Laurie! How exciting for Becca. I can't wait to see which school she chooses. She's been a stellar student for YEARS. As a Mom you must be so very proud so many acceptances are pouring in. Way to go Becca!

Wow on 58F Karen. Verra nice. Your tablet cracks me up. It's like it's own entity.
