Wonderful Wednesday

    Good Wonderful Wednesday Morning Everyone!

Looks like rain today. Weatherman predicts it'll be heavy at times, maybe up to an inch, but we'll see. I've never seen such odd rain patterns as I have here. It can be raining on one side the street and not the other. It can start out beautiful and sunny and in a matter of minutes change and storm. Very unpredictable.

There is a natural product called Quercetin that you can purchase at a health food store. For anyone suffering from seasonal allergies you may want to see if it works for you. It does for me. You need to take it for several days before you begin to see it's working but it's worth it if you can't do traditional meds or want to go the "ah natural" route.

Let us know how your new Paderno works Janet. I just looked at the one I have tucked away that has never been used and it too is a Paderno (ha!!) I really need to try it. Maybe this weekend. DH even bought me a little cookbook so I'm just going to pick something and make it.

Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday for LD. I always worry when they have to go under anesthesia but his doctor and his staff are wonderful and all went well. LD is doing great this morning, acting as if nothing happened, much much better than the first time he had teeth removed ... I just love the little guy.
In that the dog is doing well we'll be able to get out late morning to the gym to burn off some stress. It was funny and not funny but DH was so stressed yesterday worrying about LD that while we were gone he vacuumed and mopped the garage floor and did laundry to keep himself busy.
Not sure yet what to make for dinner. It'll probably be raining later or everything will be wet so grilling is out. I don't have a taste for anything either. Hmmmm. What's everyone else making?

What a sweet picture of your puppy (what's it's name again Linda?) in your avatar. Glad to hear puppy is feeling all back to normal today. Nice out here at the moment but we're supposed to get rain this afternoon. Looking forward to hearing what you try your spiralizer out on. I think I'm going to use mine a lot.

No clue on dinner yet. I'm going to get out in the garden hopefully first thing and get the front cleaned out. All manner of leaves from last fall and dead shoots to tend to. Benjamin said he was going to Skype with us this morning so I'm looking forward to that. Will pack this afternoon for our trip.

Shona, hope you are far, far away from those fires in Fort McMurray. It's just a tragedy that the entire city has been evacuated and it was scary seeing all the traffic backed up on the only highway leading out. The fires were right down at the highway's edge and people couldn't even unroll their windows as the air quality was horrible and then the town runs out of gas!!! Wow.

Filled out my Census on line this morning. Took just a matter of minutes. Heard that 1 in 10 people get the long form census but I lucked out with the short one....only 10 questions! :)

    Wishing everyone a great day.

    Hi, Linda.

Glad LD is better. He looks adorable. LOL on the DH and housework - I read that part to Wayne --- he laughed but I don't think the message sunk in. Ha ha.

No idea what to have for supper. Really must decide. Only have appetite for BAD stuff and the two caramel pecan rolls did nothing for a healthy lifestyle...ha ha!
Started the antibiotics - Dr. said it was definitely a bacterial infection of some kind. Am now working on my first cup of coffee of the day. Hot coffee is a mandatory morning need.

Three cats on lap. Well, one on arm of chair, one purring in my ear, one just left. Fritz is in full gear. Yesterday when we took him outside he raced in circles AROUND Wayne, who had to switch the lead from hand to hand to keep from being wrapped in a leash. It is a retractable 16 foot leash. We can't turn him loose because he takes off after rabbits, squirrels, no fear of anything so he would be coyote bait. We bought a 24 foot retractable one meant for a 100 pound dog, but the same lightweight nylon material, so he can exercise more. Talk about overkill. Plans are to create a run or an electric-controlled wireless space outside, maybe...he may be like the dog we knew that just yelped and jumped over the area, then jumped back in and yelped again.

    Hello to all.

    SP Janet.

Cool on the Skype and the garden prep.

I may even get a garden bed (raised) done this week. So we can put out some plants!
But need to put away the laundry and start some more IF THE WASHER DOESN'T DIE -- we will likely have to borrow the washer we got for our daughter (she decided her's was working well enough to wait on a different one).

    See you later.

Saw this article the other day.....a bit of a slam against All Recipes.
    http://www.slate.com/articles/life/food/2016/05/allrecipes_reveals_the_enormous_gap_between_foodie_culture_and_what_americans.html

Morning Karen! Glad you got some meds to fix you up. A shame with the big property you have that Fritz still needs a dog run. Perhaps when he's older he'd stick closer to home.

Puppy's (he'll be 10 this summer) name is LD ... short for Little Dog. Have fun Skypeing with your son! How is the connection with Skype? I used FaceTime a couple times and it kept cutting in and out.
Drats ... the link isn't working for me but whatever negativity it says I'm not surprised.

Happy you got an antibiotic Karen. You'll be feeling better soon. Do you have any schools within a reasonable distance? When I lived in NJ I could walk to one and they had fenced in fields (i.e; soccor) and when school wasn't in session (weekends) I would take our dog over and let him run off leash. He couldn't go anywhere because of the fences and he got a good run in. Nobody minded as long as you "cleaned up" if anything did happen. It also provided a good training area because it was fenced and other dogs weren't around so I could teach him "stay" and "come" and "stop" ...

Already had 2 iced coffees ... I'm addicted to this cold brew method and the Café du Monde brand. When I make it though I use half regular and half decaf or I'd be wired for hours.

Sorry Linda...you did tell us that before and I promptly forgot. Add to that the fact that a lot of people use acronym's on here, eg. GS, DH, etc. so I was thinking I'd forgotten the actual name. :) Our Skype connection is fantastic which is so lucky as our Internet speed is not the greatest living out in the country in the boonies. :) Yum on your iced coffee.

That's great you had a back up washing machine Karen. :)

Hi Linda, so glad LD is feeling good today!! I've only made the cold brew twice, I wish I had made some before our drinking water was shut off. I could really use some now, especially with this hot weather. :)

Hi Janet, yes we're far away from the fires....further south. We were glued to the live news all night. It's the biggest forest fire and largest evacuation in Alberta history. The temp's up North were a few degrees higher and the humidity was only 13% with much stronger winds than here. And it will be the same today. They are now expecting much of the city to be decimated today. Fort Mac. is the same size as Red Deer, I just couldn't imagine 100,000 people trying to flee the city. It's worse up there as there is only one highway in and out, and the only other towns are at least a couple hundred km's away! Many fled to the oil fields and are filling up the workers camps and campgrounds. I hope those who are low on gas can make it ok! Last night they got all the patients from the hospital evacuated. They weren't letting anyone into the city to rescue their pets---I don't think anyone could stop me from trying to get my dogs out of there! People were at work and school when the fire quickly spread from the mountains into the city yesterday, there was barely any time to get out for most people. Just scary!
Enjoy your gardening and Skype call with Benjamin :)

Hi Karen, I can just imagine Fritz chasing the wildlife! When we first got our little dog, Jersey. She was 3 yrs old, and we didn't have a fenced yard. She was well trained so we never worried about her leaving the yard. Until she decided to chase down this bunny, oh my, I had no idea she could run that fast. I tried to catch her but she was half a mile down the road and off through the creek in 5 seconds! She eventually came back. A few weeks later she barked at this giant buck, right up to his hooves. When she barks, she goes deaf and wouldn't listen to me. The Buck gracefully and softly nudged her with his antlers and went on his way. Jersey yelped and ran towards me, she had a big scrape on her side and was bleeding a little from the nudge. I'm sure he could of gouged her or fatally wounded her if he wanted too! After that we bought some wooden fence posts and some thick metal fencing and made a large fence in a day. It was high enough that the deer never jumped it and the bunny's couldn't go under it. It worked out well :) The racoons didn't like her barking and stayed away too! lol ;)

It's another scorcher today, so the AC and fans will be full blast. With that came back my asthmatic cough, with a vengeance. Just when I thought I was feeling better! So I'd better take it easy today. I have some leftover rotisserie chicken that Pete brought home last night. I think I'll make some quesadillas with it and finish off the spinach salad. I need to go into town and get some thicker curtains, probably tomorrow or Friday. The sliding glass door on the east side is a thin silky material and let's in too much sun. I want to get some paint as well. I have been spending a lot of time looking at paint samples and I'm leaning towards a soft grey--either blue-steel grey or taupe-grey. Both colours are in my floor tile. Since the kitchen will be bright white and we get a lot of sun it could use a cooler tone, so I am leaning towards the bluish-steel.

    Have a great day everyone!

I managed to find the article you mentioned, Janet. It did seem to bash the "can of soup" cooking era that is found in AR. It is sometimes hard to find a recipe that doesn't call for processed foods. Thanks for sharing. I am so disgusted with AR that I seldom go even to check recipes.( I almost didn't read it because of the stuff that filled the front page. It was too full of political name calling for my taste).

I am hoping that when he is older he will tone down. He popped out the other day and I conned him into coming by pretending to play - the hard part was getting back up from the ground while holding a wiggly little 15 pound dog!

Shona, glad you are not by the fires. Wow on evacuating a city of 100,000. We did not hear about that on our news! Yes, I would try to sneak back to get my pets. Sure makes staying prepared a wise choice. Hope there were contingency plans to care for the elderly and those who have no transportation.

Wow on the buck just moving the pooch away. I could see Fritz trying something like that, although he is more concerned with squirrels and rabbits. Or odd sounding birds that get him riled up because he can't see them.

We were 2 miles from a 1,000 acre fire several years back, fortunately the backfire just across the highway stopped the progression as it was headed our way. (Can't imagine moving two horses (no trailer) - one hyper dog - 6 cats (in 5 crates) and 8 chickens (in makeshift wire cages, provided we could even catch the rooster!). There is one way out, and if the fire had blocked the road I guess we would have had in try plan B -- whatever that is! Aargh!

Linda, we don't have any schools withing 20 miles. We live in a sparsely populated rural area in the Mark Twain Forest, surrounded on three sides by the forest and one by an absentee owner. We have considered the wireless electric run where he could run around and use up some excess energy.

Okay, one of the cats is into something in the kitchen so must go shoo him/her out. A.C. is outside - he was unbearably rotten and I needed an A.C. break!

Well the rain is here and here with a fury. We went to the gym, stopped for lunch, and stopped at the grocery store and got in minutes before it started. Picked up meatloaf mix for meatloaf and will make gravy, mashed potatoes, and peas to go with it.

So scary and so sad about the fires Shona. Devastating. I'm with you, if my pets were back at the house there would be nothing stopping me (other than being arrested and taken away) that would stop me from getting them. Yikes, on the buck and dog story.

Being surrounded by forest and nature is awesome Karen. Bet it's very peaceful.

Shona, it chills me to the bone to imagine the destruction and nightmare that is Fort McMurray right now. OH NO on your cough!! Quesadillas sound good. It's alway fun to choose paint colours. When I managed the Hardware store I used to giggle often at the names of the paint colours and wished I'd been on the party to select them. :)

I never really ever went on All recipes. Some how years ago I found Group recipes. I think my son surfed the net and then showed it to me. :) No, I certainly can't picture loading up all your animals and things and heading out Karen. It'd be a nightmare.

I had to shake my head at the headline of that link Linda. I don't think you'd ever see a headline in a Canadian article that said Nasty wildfire spurs evacuation of a U.S. City. Not sure why they wouldn't put the name of the city in but maybe it'd take too long to explain where it is to people who wouldn't know where Alberta was? It is a devastating event. One of my cousins lives there and evacuated last night with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Hi all! Caiden had Field Day today and we just got home...it was so HOT and I'm pooped! Caiden's practice got canceled because the field is still too wet, so I am going to take advantage of the sunny day and grill some steaks this evening along with some corn on the cob and baked potatoes. Will catch up tonight, have a great evening everyone :)

Janet, CNN had a more informative headline: http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/04/world/fort-mcmurray-fire-canada/ -- they even said where it was located in Canada. I Googled the area - my sister lives 300 miles North-ish from there.

Hi Michelle. Grilling steaks sounds wonderful. We will probably have a spinach salad and beef stroganoff (? sp) fconcoction since I bought mushrooms - (but forgot the ginger root I wanted for another recipe).
