Woodpecker Wednesday

Good Morning All! Wishing you all a wonderful day and for those who are not feeling well a speedy recovery. Seems many are battling colds.

Woke up this morning to a crazy woodpecker drilling the palm trees in front of our house. It made such a racket that we had to get up to see what it was, you could almost feel the vibration of him drilling, it was like a jackhammer. Hated to chase him away but go find other trees.

Since I was up and had bought ingredients yesterday to make Oatmeal Cottage Cheese pancakes I made them and they were great, easy too. Just dump the ingredients in a blender, blend, pour, cook, ... pancakes! Nice that they include protein.

My new computer is not working. I'm so angry! When I turned it on this morning it was making a horrible beeping and buzzing sound ... Called the 24/7 Geek Squad service and long story short is it lost access to the hard drive and can't boot up ... WTF! It's 5 days old and service wants another $100 to come out and see what's going on and that's not going to happen. I'll rip the whole thing down and return it all. Thank God I still have my old one hooked up for the "just in case, let's see how it goes". The store opens at 10:00 so I'll call then and get a manager on the phone.

Meeting a girl friend for lunch today at PF Changs and plan to do nothing else the rest of the day.

UPDATE: Called Best Buy and spoke with the store manager. They are pulling a new computer out of stock and will have Geek Squad come out and set it up ... no charge for anything. Just waiting now for a return phone call for a convenient day and time.

Morning Linda! Love the thread title. It's very amusing for me to picture a woodpecker hammering a palm tree as we have TONS of woodpeckers but nary a palm tree. :) What kind of woodpeckers do you get there? Oh my goodness, I'd be freaking too if my brand new computer was having issues and then on top of it for them to want money to come look at it. That's ridiculous and they'll lose customers if they have that happen very often! Let us know how it goes once you speak with the Manager. Have fun at lunch with your girlfriend and let us know what you ordered off the menu. I've never been to a PF Changs but I've heard a lot about them.

Am just having brekkie, a mango smoothie and a sesame seed bagel and then we have friends coming over for tea. Not sure what I'm making for dinner yet. Probably fish and probably salmon. :)

    gotta run. check back latr

We have a few Pileated Woodpeckers that do the craziest things as well, Linda. One year the racket was so loud I thought the whole house was going to blow up! It ended out the woodpecker was rattling on our metal eavestrough probably for bugs. All my neighbours came out b/c they had never heard such a racket. He did that off and on for about three weeks in the Spring. Thank heavens he hasn't done that in a few years. I hear woodpeckers back in the woods behind our house all the time. Gee I hope everything gets settled with your new computer. I wouldn't be a happy camper at all!
Enjoy your lunch with your GF.
Shona, I hope your neck and shoulder is feeling better today.
Enjoy your brekke, Janet and your tea with friends.
Not up to too much today. I have to mop the hardwood floors, though, I can see the dust. Dinner will be pork tenderloin something.

It's the big Pileated Woodpecker. I've seen Red Bellies and Downys here too but they don't have half the power of the Pileateds. Magnificant birds.

Mango smoothie sounds good. So does your pork tenderloin Joce. We had one the other night for dinner.

Morning! Ugh on the woodpecker Linda, that would be annoying!! I Pinned that pancake recipe, too cool that they work out well, I would have never thought! I don’t blame you for returning the computer, that’s what I’d do. Glad it all worked out :) Have a nice lunch with your GF today :-)

Have a good time with your guests today Janet. I haven’t had salmon in forever, sounds good!

Hi Joce. Yikes on your past with woodpeckers! We don’t see very many of them around here, but our trees are still little in our neighborhood, which could have something to do with it :)

Caiden’s coughing still but is feeling better. He slept until 10am! Made him some eggs bacon and toast when he woke up. Just taking it easy today so he can get better and go back to school tomorrow. Luckily none of the rest of us woke up with as sore throat so I’m thinking we have avoided it.

It poured down all night long. The sun is shining now and it’s beautiful outside so I’m going to take advantage of it and grill this evening. Pulled out some orange and rosemary specialty sausage and I’m going to make this tonight

LOL @ your neighbours coming out to investigate the Woodpecker Joce! Nice on pork tenderloin for dinner. We did a quick sweep and clean of the house before our guests arrived so I think it'll do until next week for a more thorough one.

I've never seen a Red-Bellied woodpecker before but I know they are in certain regions. We get PIleateds, Hairy, Downy, Flickers and Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers at my house. I love them all but indeed they can cause a lot of damage.

Glad Caiden's feeling a little better this morning. Crossing my fingers the rest of you do avoid it Jim's brother is flying to Corpus Christie on Thursday to drive his Dad back home to Canada. I think they're heading right back on Friday so he won't have time to soak up the sun or get some sand between his toes. Your sausage sounds yummy.

Had a nice visit with our friends. I had a long chat with my Mom. She's getting her roof re-shingled, and then I fixed my bird house. The raccoons had thrown it out of the tree a couple of times and it was coming apart. Gonna go for a walk this aft. It's beautiful and sunny out but there's a nip to the wind.

Ha ha on the noisy woodpecker, Linda! Boo on the bad computer! Yes, I would insist on a replacement ASAP. Best Buy is usually good about that, but the nearest one is over 100 miles away.

We have red-headed woodpeckers and they bang away at an unhealthy persimmon tree in the yard. Cardinals, Northern cardinals, and an assortment of birds that I don't know their name.....not a bird expert.

Glad Caiden is feeling better, Michelle. And that no one else is sick, at the moment anyway. LOL.

Janet, you must have some tough raccoons if they pitch the birdhouses down. Wow! We have had the little demons tear up inside the barn to try to get to the chickens, Wayne spent forever cleaning up their chaotic mess. We trapped ten this winter alone inside the barn. One escaped. Blondie was released -- unless he actually goes after chickens he has been granted a reprieve.

The long awaited garden is in the works. Wayne ordered the blocks - we are doing a raised one with netting over it --- raccoons, birds, rabbits, squirrels, etc. all wreck havoc in gardens around this part of the woods. The blocks are due tomorrow - bought them from Friend's lumber because they do free delivery!

The horrible, terrible forecast gave us a distant thunder / lightning and about a quarter inch of rain. So I tend to ignore the weather predictions. Several years back, we had four predictions of a huge snowfall, told us to hunker down, stock up, etc. Well, four times we got about an inch, or nothing. The fifth time, identical models, same conditions, they did not give the storm warningt. And we got slammed with 18 inches of snow! Go figure!

A.C. is relishing his time as an outdoor kitty, he spends a couple of hours roaming about the yard and barnyard and, if doors are open, inspecting the carriage house and the garage. Then he comes inside and crashes. Goofy cat!

Fritz was very naughty this morning. He is looking innocent, asleep in Wayne's recliner, sleeping off his bad deed for the day. Wayne did NOT put his hearing aids away, left them beside his chair on his desk / credenza (like a cupboard with a drop down shelf). A naughty puppy chewed one up, then grabbed the second when I took away the first. Fortunately he only destroyed one, and I rescued the other from his grip before he could chomp down on it. Bad dog.

Rain is gone, sky is clear. It is cool and nice outside. Got a smidgen of rain so do not have to water the plants.

    Have a nice day.

Got some much needed gardening done while Caiden watched a movie. Now I think I am going to make some more of those apple muffins, they are still being requested!

Aww darn it that Jim's Dad is going to miss the beautiful weather with all this rainy stormy weather lately :( But at least he get's to come home to nice weather it sounds like!

The bird feeder that gets trashed is one that hangs from a branch in the tree Karen. So it's easily 'pitched', especially considering how dextrous raccoons are. Take a pic of your raised garden for us once you get it all set up. It sounds great. Yikes on the hearing aid doggy snacks. Hope it doesn't cost too much to replace it!.

Did a 6 km. walk with Jim and now we're readying for a hot tub. Our reward. :)

Still haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do with the salmon. I'm thinking Asian something. I have a half a bag of slaw in the fridge I want to use us as well so am thinking of maybe stir frying it and adding in some onion and , carrots, cilantro? I'm completely winging it. Someone on line also said they use it in egg foo yung which is also an idea.
