Tapas party?

How many are the right number of tapas for a party? What would be your ideal mix of hot and cold? Do you prefer sherry as the only aperitif? or do you offer beer or other mixed drinks? What would your ideal music be for background sound?

    Hey Momma!

I serve Sangria at my Tapas parties and beer. I usually keep a good stock of alcohol to make some mixed drinks for people.

I usually buy some nice crusty bread, I have the standard manchego and spanish salami trays and spanish olives also. I usually make 2-3 meat 2-3 vegetable and 2 seafood which usually end up being some sort of shrimp and mussels. I really need to try some different seafood dishes. I sometimes make mini seafood paella dishes and thats a big hit.

The total about usually is 6-8 different dishes. I base this on going to Tapas Restaurant where they recommend usually 3-4 Tapas a person.

I'm terrible in the Music department. One of the sites I used before recommended Spanish Guitar music in the background for authenticity. I usually just turn on the radio to a light rock station. hehe

    Hi NYM and Jen.....
Martinis! I also have red and white wine, and soft drinks.
I had different spreads for bread, small portions of meat with a side salad type thing, a seafood and then small custards. Help thyself. I Love Tapas.
    Music...light rock.

Thanks for the info....I'm thinking this would be a nice change of pace for our next get-together.

Now, I'm going to take a good hard look at those recipes you have posted and compose a menu, pick a date and invite the friends. One good thing we have soundtracks from several movies that would work as background. One benefit of being a skating mom, you have instrumental music galore. I think we have Don Quixote, Don Juan De Marco (love Johnny Depp in this) and some great guitar work too.

Garlic shrimp, mussels, (yum) manchego cheese, chorizo, blond sangria, crusty bread, olives, roasted peppers, some kind of soft cheese? a savory meatball in tomato? maybe a chicken liver? ummmm, filete salteado with beef tips instead of tenderloin? I know little plates and little portions. Wedges of frittata? Just thinking outloud. I don't want to get too Italian, I want to stay more authentically Spanish. Melon and cured ham? This is exciting. Something I haven't tried before.

    http://www.spain-recipes.com/spanish_tapas.html

    http://www.tapenawines.com/quick-tapas.html

http://www.latascausa.com/menu.cfm This site is a restaurant that we used to eat at monthly when living in DC. Sometimes I look over the menu and it's descriptions and than google for the recipe.

Hello, RML. I'm going to those sites to check them out. A tapas party sounds like so much fun. We need a party big time. My 25th wedding anniversary is in August, looks like a theme that would work for me.

Hope ya'll have a great Memorial Day. We're getting ready to do some shopping and then relaxing. I'm ignoring the pile of laundry. I'll think about it tomorrow. LOL
