Saffron Spill

  • divaliscious 15 years ago
I recall one time making some Indian typed basmati rice with added cloves and peas (in fact thinking about the rice, I should post that recipe here) anyhoooo,
I took out the saffron - I also had open skillets and pots cooking other dishes for that dinner, including some sort of chicken.

Somehow while unscrewing the cap, my hands slipped - At least two tablespoons flew everywhere onto the stove, into the cooking pots and yes some got into the rice.

I was in shock..(at the current prices of saffron)...I nearly emptied all that saffron from that spice jar - I can recall trying to save and pinch back up any strands on the stove top to go back into the spice jar....

Oooh, I just winced when I read your title! I thought, "Wow, expensive spill!" I remember being so shocked, the first time I ever bought saffron. I was in high school (way back when!) and we made Spanish dishes for Spanish class. I made some type of paella and was astonished when I paid about $3 for a jar containing a little envelope containing a few strands of saffron. Now it would be great at that price, wouldn't it?

Yes - I think I spilled - well I won't even tel you, but I could have bought a complete outfit with shoes at walmart! - Easily along with a set of new underwear to match...lol

and yes oddly enough the dinner was extra good that night... if only I served it at Windows of the World or '21' in NYC....fancy restaurants in NYC
