Buddy requests from hard-core meat eaters

  • uhannigan 16 years ago
Can some of you share what you do when you get a friend request from someone whose food preferences are nothing like yours? I feel rude rejecting them, so I accept. However this week I opened "My Stuff" to find a list of recipes using tongue, brains, etc. I was so grossed out that I immediately deleted that "buddy." Don't get me wrong, some of the best recipes I've received have been from non-vegetarian cooking buddies--I simply substitute. But it's impossible to substitute for some big hunk of meat. I don't know why these people even want to be my cooking buddies. How do you handle this?

well i only just joined this site in the last week (july 2009) and despite saying i NEVER eat pork ther is always a pork recipe lurking somewhere lol,
to substitute for a "hunk" of meat try using a lentil loaf or a TVP type meat loaf recipe so that this becomes your hunk,
also i don't think meat eaters (of which i am one altho i have spent some years as a vegetarian) really consider your sensitivities about flesh , when they think of "vegetarians" - i think they imagine we eat all the same foods minus the actual meat without realising that there is probably some philosophy attached to the choice - c'est la vie - everyone learns lessons in their own time and their own way so maybe you need to be more tolerant of these insensitive meat eaters until they understand why no meat makes more sense - both for the planet, for their health and for the animals concerned
i am hoping you have a great recipe for me to try as well so if you have please let me know
love and laughter, peace and joy
