There is a huge variety of pumpkin available in SA, but not in Ireland! When we just immigrated... I would ask at the Supermarkets and they will say they only get pumpkin over Halloween! I think my jaw dropped to the floor! Luckily we there are some european-chain supermarkets that import and stock a bigger variety of vegetables, so I've been lucky to get butternuts there! I've heard from a friend that gem-squash grows quite well in the wetter weather, so I might just start a pumpkin patch!
