How to make it

  • In a large pan, brown the beef & then drain.
  • Add the onion and cook til tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the garlic and the tomatoes with the juice and cook about 5 more minutes or until the garlic and tomatoes soften a bit.
  • Season with salt and pepper, and the Italian Seasoning.
  • Add the tomato sauce and stir.
  • Cover the pan and let the sauce simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
  • While the meat browns in Step #1, cook the pasta according to package directions. Do not overcook pasta, as it will continue cooking in the oven.
  • Lightly oil a 9" x 13" pan. Spoon in a LIGHT layer of meat sauce.
  • Begin layering with 1/2 of the pasta, 1/2 the meat sauce and 1/2 the cheese.
  • Finish with the rest of the pasta, the rest the meat sauce and the rest of the cheese.
  • I sometimes vary the thickness of the layers and make 3 layers instead of just two.
  • You can add more cheese if you like it "gooeyer". Cover the pan with foil and bake 20-25 minutes @ 375. Let the casserole set for about 5 minutes before serving.
