How to make it

  • 1. Bring Chicken, salt, veggies and herbs to a boil and simmer 1 hour or until chicken is fully cooked.
  • 2. Strain broth and reserve chicken, discard veggies
  • 3. Mix milk and flour together until smooth.
  • 4. Whisk into boiling broth and simmer to thicken.
  • 5. Return chicken to pot and return to simmer.
  • Dumplings
  • 1. Mix dry ingredients together.
  • 2. Cut shortening into dry goods until well mixed.
  • 3. Add milk and mix just until moistened.
  • 4. Drop spoonfuls into slowly simmering stew.
  • 5. Cook uncovered 10 minutes then covered 10 minutes.

    I just made chicken and dumplings the other day. First time. They came out pretty good. I didn't use flour for a thickener and that was definitely missing. I think I want to give your method a try. :)
