Ingredients

How to make it

  • Add oil and all vegtables/lentles into a large pot and sweat youre veg for 20 mins on medium heat.
  • add youre smoked meat to the pot and stirr well.
  • now fill youre pot 3 quarters full with water bring to boil then turn heat down low and simmer
  • cook this soup for 2 hrs at the very least.
  • taste the soup before you add salt because the smoked meat can be very salty!!
  • once cooked for 2 hrs serve in bowl with a side plate of bread to dip in.
  • if you use ham hough take out soup let it cool and cut meat of. it should be nice and tender.you can add this to the soup or eat it by itself.

    Thank you! Sounds just fabulous! MY mother is from the South, and ham hocks and these little cubes of cow fat striped with bits of muscle (like bacon) and Extremely salty are the base of her soups.
