This is the crockpot version of an oven baked family recipe.

Ingredients
  • 3 1/2 lb beef short ribs
  • 2 tbl flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbl shortening
  • 2 med onions sliced
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 3 tbl brown sugar
  • 3 tbl vinegar
  • 1 tbl Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbl flour
  • cooked spatzle(kept warm)

Directions
  1. Coat ribs in mixture of 2 T flour with salt and pepper.
  2. Brown on all sides.
  3. In crockpot combine the ribs and the rest of the ingredients except for the 2 T flour.
  4. Cook on low for 9 hrs.
  5. Turn control to high . Thicken with 2 T flour mixed with a little water. Cook on high for 15 minutes.
  6. Serve over spatzle.
  7. Garnish with braised chilis.
