Quick Elegant Berries

I used to warm Cognac (or Pear William, if I had any), pour it over sliced pears, and light it, then serve the pears with a slice of pound cake. A quick, easy, simple, and delicious dessert that always got rave reviews (How did you make this? Read more This is incredible!) and nobody every believed me when I explained how I'd made it. The problem is that you need dead ripe pears, which are hard to find these days. So one day in the late spring when I was at the store picking up things for a dinner party, I decided to try a similar idea with blackberries. Here it is. See less
Ingredients
- 12 oz. blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries shopping list
- 1/4 c. cognac or Grand Marnier shopping list
- 4 T. sugar shopping list
- sliced pound cake shopping list
- lightly sweetened whipped cream for garnish shopping list
How to make it
- Place the berries in a bowl (hull and slice, if using strawberries). Heat the spritis, pour over the berries, and light with a match. When the flame burns down, stir in the sugar, and macerate for about a half hour. Serve berries over slices of pound cake, with whipped cream mounded on top.
