How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F. Butter an 8" X 12" cake pan.
  • Whisk cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in eggs, warm water, milk, sour cream, butter and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean, 35 - 40 min. Let cake cool in pan on a wire rack for 15 min. Invert cake on to rack, and let cool. Slice just before serving.

You’re very welcome!! I’m happy to share. Your creative frosting - peppermint sounds so good to me. :)

This is delicious. The cake has a nice deep chocolate flavor, not too sweet, and is very moist. I used 2 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract and increased the butter by a small amount. For frosting I made a peppermint flavored buttercream. The cake is so good. I made it last night and it is more than half gone (it's just my husband and me in the house). Thanks for the post.
