Ingredients

How to make it

  • 1.Chop stewed beef into smaller peices (about 1/4"). In a pot place stewed beef, beef boullion cube, bay leaf, and water. Boil meat until tender about 1-1/2 hours. Add water as needed, you want water covering meat at all times.
  • 2.Saute galic and onion in oil. After meat is tender add onion, garlic, chile powder, oregano, nopales (make sure nopales are drained and rinsed) and tomato paste to meat and water. Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup warm water, slowly add into meat mixture while stirring. Let simmer about 30 minutes, sauce should thicken.
  • 3.Serve with rice, re-fry beans, and tortillas or tostados.

Sorry, I should have put that on there, yes it is cactus. It can be found at most mexican stores either fresh or pre-made and all you have to do is drain and rinse it.

So when I looked up nopales (nopals), this is what I found:

"Any of various cacti of the genera Nopalea or Opuntia, including the prickly pear and similar species.
The fleshy, oval, edible pad of such a cactus."

Is this what you are talking about?
