How to make it

  • Sauté onion and garlic in oil until translucent
  • Stir in tomato paste, water and spices and combine
  • Lightly boil/simmer at least 60 minutes stirring occasionally to make sure it does not burn on the bottom of the pan
  • So as not to have to keep over it, after coming to a simmer I will place in a preheated 240 degree oven. Make sure your pan is oven proof!
  • You can optionally add par cooked meatballs and/or Italian sausage once sauce comes to a boil
  • I also make triple batches and "can" them for easier use in pint jars - just don't add meat or sausage

    This is similar to the way I make my sauce. I use Hunt's tomatoes if not using fresh. But you are correct...generic will not work in my house. Nice post.
