Family Spaghetti Sauce
From 77mini 14 years agoIngredients
- 3/4 cup (or less if you don’t like) finely chopped onion shopping list
- 2 garlic cloves crushed (or 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder but it is not the same) shopping list
- 2 tablespoons olive oil shopping list
- 1 – 12oz can Contadina tomato paste (don’t use generic-yuch) shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups water (20 oz.) shopping list
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano shopping list
- 1 teaspoon dried basil shopping list
- 1 teaspoon sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon table salt (or 1 full teaspoon kosher salt) shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper shopping list
How to make it
- Sauté onion and garlic in oil until translucent
- Stir in tomato paste, water and spices and combine
- Lightly boil/simmer at least 60 minutes stirring occasionally to make sure it does not burn on the bottom of the pan
- So as not to have to keep over it, after coming to a simmer I will place in a preheated 240 degree oven. Make sure your pan is oven proof!
- You can optionally add par cooked meatballs and/or Italian sausage once sauce comes to a boil
- I also make triple batches and "can" them for easier use in pint jars - just don't add meat or sausage
