Classic Mac and Cheese

- 2 cups elbow macaroni shopping list
- 6 tablespoons butter, divided shopping list
- 3 tablespoons flour shopping list
- 1 tablespoon powdered mustard shopping list
- 3 cups milk shopping list
- 1 small onion, finely diced shopping list
- 1 bay leaf shopping list
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 16 ounces white or sharp cheddar, shredded shopping list
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt shopping list
- fresh black pepper shopping list
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.
- In a separate pot, melt 3 tablespoons of butter.
- Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes.
- Make sure it's free of lumps.
- Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika.
- Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf.
- Temper in the egg.
- Stir in 3/4 of the cheese.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish.
- Top with remaining cheese.
- Melt the remaining butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat.
- Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.

This sounds good - have never used those spices in mac and cheese but can taste them in my mind! Will definitely give this a try.
