Mountain Molasses Stack cake

- cake: shopping list
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1 stick unsalted butter shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 1/2 cup molasses shopping list
- 1/2 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tbs baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 tsp baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 2 cups finely chopped apples shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp cinnamon shopping list
How to make it
- Cake:
- Cream sugar and butter till light
- Slowly blend in egg and molasses
- Beat in buttermilk, vanilla and nutmeg
- Sift dry ingrdients and slowly add to ccreamed mixture until well blended
- Grease and flour 2, 8 inch round cake pans
- Divide batter in pans
- Bake in a preheated 350F oven until tested done about 20 mins
- Cool cake in pans on a rack
- Meanwhile make filling:
- Cook apples in the water till tender
- Stir in the brown sugar and bring to a boil and cook and stir until
- mixture thickens and is syrupy
- Place one of the cake layers on a serving plate
- Spoon on half the filling evenly on the cake
- Place the 2nd layer over filling and top the layer with remaining filling
