How to make it

  • Cake:
  • Cream sugar and butter till light
  • Slowly blend in egg and molasses
  • Beat in buttermilk, vanilla and nutmeg
  • Sift dry ingrdients and slowly add to ccreamed mixture until well blended
  • Grease and flour 2, 8 inch round cake pans
  • Divide batter in pans
  • Bake in a preheated 350F oven until tested done about 20 mins
  • Cool cake in pans on a rack
  • Meanwhile make filling:
  • Cook apples in the water till tender
  • Stir in the brown sugar and bring to a boil and cook and stir until
  • mixture thickens and is syrupy
  • Place one of the cake layers on a serving plate
  • Spoon on half the filling evenly on the cake
  • Place the 2nd layer over filling and top the layer with remaining filling

    GEE-WHIZ THIS SOUNDS FANTASTIC AND I LOVE ALL THOSE OLD FASHIONED FLAVORS NOTHING BETTER THAN SOME GOOD MOLASSES, IT REMINDS ME OF A CIVIL WAR FRUIT CAKE REIPE I HAVE .... CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THIS RECIPE OUT
