OLD FASHIONED VIRGINIA PEPPERED HAM
From goodeat 15 years agoIngredients
- 1 large smoked Virginia ham shopping list
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard shopping list
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tablespoon cracked black pepper shopping list
- 2 tablespoons honey shopping list
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs shopping list
- cloves (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Soak ham in a large pan with enough cold water to cover for 24 hours in a cool place. The following morning, scrub the ham using a new natural fiber scrub brush.
- Boil the ham for 1 or 2 hours, then remove the skin (cut through the fat under the skin and pull it away from the ham).
- Combine remaining ingredients (except cloves).
- Cover the top of the ham with the bread crumb mixture. Make criss-cross diamond shape incisions into the ham using a sharp knife. The centers of each diamond may be studded with a whole clove, if desired.
- Bake the ham at 15-18 minutes per lb. at 325°F (or 140°F internal temperature).
- Note: If you prefer a sweeter ham, use more sugar or honey in the mixture.
