Got my OJ at the Galleria in Redondo Beach, CA a loooong time ago. I changed the recipe as I had gastric bypass surgery and I added a scoop of vanilla protein powder and a tsp of powd sugar, no simple syrup. It is very good! Thanks.

A healthier alternative that tastes just like an Orange Julius is to blend 16 oz of orange juice with a half a packet of the original vanilla MetRx protein supplement mix and some crushed ice. Can't be beat....

This recipe is spot on. I live in Kentucky and haven't had one of these in years. Remember having these as a kid in NC. Taste just like the real thing!

I had always heard of OJ but never tried one... UNITL recently when I heard what was in it? Milk and Orange Juice? Exotic! So I made one.. With carnation evaporated milk and Orange Juice. And I've been hook ever since (last week). That got me to wondering.. "Just what IS in a real OJ??" So thanks for this recipe! But try mine.. Tis Good! *Also works well with soda.. i.e; Coke.

Tasted my first Orange Julius in North Platte, Neb. in '79 while travelin' the country in my VW bus in my hippie days. Loved it then. Found it again in the mid 80's at a mall in NC but the stands are not around here any more. Thanks so much for the recipe & the memories.(Chickin' might work but only if fried real crisp, with skin on & a pinch of onion powder in the coatin')

Actually I have listed the ingredients per their own container: The main ingredients of their "magic" powder are listed as (1) Whole Milk Solids (Powdered Milk) (2) Egg white solids, (3) sugar, (4) corn syrup solids, and flavor enhancers (I believe a touch of vanilla powder).

So you can see I did list the ingredients you referred. The powdered milk works so well and can be bought in any store and the taste is so close as to be just fine without buying powdered egg whites and powder vanilla. That is why the small amount of vanilla pudding works as well. JJ

No, this is not the original recipe. The instant vanilla pudding powder might make an acceptable substitute, but if you want the REAL consistency and flavor of an Orange Julius, use powdered egg white and vanilla powder. Both can be purchased online.

You are totally correct. Idiots not to sell the powder in stores. If I was at a shopping center and there was a place to buy one, I would. Your are very smart. It ain't a secret powder anymore. Go to a Orange Julius place, tell them you may be allergic to what is in the powder and make them show you the label. It is just what I say. Mine tastes just the same as theirs. JJ.

    Hello thegoldminer,
Thanks for posting the orange julius drink on this website. I recall purchasing the "secret powder" from them. After my supply ran out I went back to purchase more but they were no longer selling it to individuals a ver poor business decision IMO. Oh well, Thanks again.

I don't think you can do much to not make it taste good. Just got some powdered milk today. Will try it. Just can't remember what I bought before. Looked at the vanilla instant pudding and the ingredients were junk. So I will make a batch with the p-milk. I will first put the p-milk in my Magic Bullet to make it more a powder. Then a batch with a couple drops of pure vanilla. Hope someone is trying to get make this so we all benefit. JJ
