Mom's standard prep for a cocktail nibble. Served at every shower we ever hosted. They are addictive and quite easy to do.

Ingredients
  • 8 ounces of whole walnuts
  • 8 ounces of whole blanched almonds
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • (I add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne for me and I label the bowl)

Directions
  1. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
  2. Fold in salt (cayenne) and add sugar gradually beating constantly unti stiff peaks form.
  3. Mix in the nuts and stir til evenly coated.
  4. Pour melted butter on lipped cookie sheet; and nuts.
  5. Bake at 325 degrees 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minute intervals.
