Spinach Dal/palak Ki Dal

- 1cup-pigeon pea lentils/toor dal shopping list
- 1-small onion sliced fine shopping list
- 1tsp-ginger-garlic paste shopping list
- 4-5 cloves of garlic pounded lightly shopping list
- 2-whole dry red chillies(optional) shopping list
- 1/4tsp-black mustard seeds shopping list
- 1/4tsp-cumin seeds shopping list
- 1/4tsp-turmeric powder shopping list
- 3-4-thin green chillies slit into half lengthwise shopping list
- 7-8 curry leaves shopping list
- salt to taste shopping list
- coriander leaves for garnish shopping list
- juice of 1/2 a lemon shopping list
- 2cups of water shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped spinach(after washing & cleaning) shopping list
- 2-3tbsp of olive oil shopping list
How to make it
- Method-Wash & clean the pigeon pea lentils and soak then in water for about half an hour.
- discard the water and pressure cook the lentils with 2 cups of water upto 3 whistles.
- the lentils should mash when pressed
- in a wok heat 2-3 tbsp of olive oil,(dont let it get too hot),now add the muystard seeds,once they start crackling add the cumin seeds,whole dry red chillies,pounded garlic cloves,onions and saute tiull the onions turn translucent ans a little brown at the edges
- Now add the ginger garlic paste and saute, in go the turmeric green chillies& curry leaves.
- now add the chopped spinach leaves and mix well,cover & cook for 10 mins but keep checking lest it gets burnt
- once the spinach turns soft and changes colour add the boiled pigeon pea lentils and mix well .Lastly season with salt and add the lemon juice sprinkle some coriander leaves for garnish.
- serve with hot steamed rice
