How to make it

  • For the cake, process the apple pie filling in a food processor or blender or use a potato masher, until coarsely chopped.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, pie filling, flour, baking powder, eggs, and oil. Beat on medium for 2 minutes.
  • Spread the batter evenly in a 9 X 13-inch, greased cake pan.
  • For the topping, combine the sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Cut in the butter with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Stir in nuts if using them.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the batter.
  • Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes until a cake tester comes out clean.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving/
