- 1 # butter shopping list
- 2 # brown sugar shopping list
- 2 C white Karo syrup shopping list
- 2 cans sweetened condensed milk shopping list
- 1 pinch of salt shopping list
- 2 tsp vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Use a heavy pan--stir ALL of the time, and use a candy thermometer.
- Melt 1 # of butter over low heat. Remove from heat, and add everthing but the vanilla. Cook until candy thermometer reches 246 degrees.
- Remove from stove, and add vanilla. Pour mixture into two greased 9x13 pans. Let cool for several hours
- Cut into strips and wrap pieces into waxed paper. (Takes a bunch of time, so, to make it a little easier, I like to roll into little "snakes" these caramels and then wrap them..)
- ***can cut recipe in half and still get terrific results!
