Lazarus Rolls Aka Empty Tombs

These are an Easter treat that the kids use to tell a story in Sunday School. I have heard them used in reference the story of the raising of Lazarus and also to represent the empty tomb of Easter morning. The marshmallows represent the body, which is then anointed with oil and spices (cinnamon and sugar represent these). Read more The crescent wraps represent the graves-clothes and the oven is the "tomb" where the "body" lays for a time. When the "tomb" (oven) is opened, the body has miraculously left the graves clothes with the spices intact. My daughter has been making these every year since she was a toddler and now as a teen is carrying on the tradition. She made 9 batches (72 rolls) of them with the younger kids at church this weekend and the little ones loved them just like she used to. See less
Ingredients
- 8 marshmallows shopping list
- 1 tin crescent rolls (8 per tin) shopping list
- cooking oil to dip marshmallows in shopping list
- equal parts cinnamon and sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Pre-heat the oven as directed on the crescent roll tin.
- Lay out the crescent roll dough in separate triangles.
- Pour some cooking oil into a small bowl or cup
- Dip a marshmallow into the oil to coat it.
- Roll the marshmallow in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
- Wrap the marshmallow in a crescent roll and pinch the edges to seal them.
- Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 11-12 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm (careful, they can be very hot inside right out of the oven.)
