Not so sure about this one. It is dated 1896 in an estate sale collection that I purchased. I can't imagine this being any good but who knows.

I am always looking for recipes that feature cornmeal as a major ingredient. Gonn'a try this one and I'll report back on it. The shortening may have to be replaced with somethng like bacon drippings and salt & pepper included. Sounds a little bland otherwise.

Humm, I would use the bacon and dripping as well. OR butter. Thinking what to serve this on. I love cornmeal thanks for finding this one. Keep looking for those unusual recipes. I love them.

My grandmother made cornmeal gravy to serve on top of baked sweet potatoes. It was awesome! Seeing your recipe brought back precious memories. Her gravy was made with water rather than milk. Believe it or not, it is very good! She did, and I have when I have made it, add additional salt to taste.
