Magic Baked-on Frosting Recipe
As a kid, I always marveled at this when my grammy would do it. It was always a topping for her yellow cake and, sometimes, for her chocolate cake. It's fun for kids to see.

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 2 tablespoons cream

Directions
  1. Bake cake as you normally would.
  2. Set oven at 375 degrees.
  3. In the meantime, combine sugar, coconut, salt, Crisco and cream in a small saucepan.
  4. Cook and stir until sugar melts.
  5. When cake comes out of the oven, spread onto top of the warm cake.
  6. Bake at 375 degres for 10-12 minutes, until lightly browned.
  7. The topping melts right on the cake and tah-dah....instantly frosted!
