Philly Cheesesteak Style Hamburgers
From essentialingredients 12 years agoIngredients
- 1 pound ground turkey shopping list
- 1 pound ground beef shopping list
- 2 teaspoons Emeril’s BAM Burger seasoning (or seasoned salt or your favorite burger seasoning) shopping list
- ½ teaspoon salt (or less or none, depending on the burger seasoning used) shopping list
- ½ teaspoon pepper shopping list
- 1 large green bell pepper shopping list
- 1 large yellow onion (or white or red, your preference) shopping list
- 1 lb fresh crimini mushrooms, sliced shopping list
- 1 tablespoon olive oil shopping list
- ½ cup sour cream shopping list
- 4 oz Velveeta shopping list
- hamburger buns of your choice (I used pepperidge Farm Deli Flats instead of buns) shopping list
How to make it
- Combine ground turkey and ground beef in a large bowl and add the hamburger seasoning.
- With a handheld grater (one with large holes for grating cheese, NOT a fine grater or microplane), grate ½ of the green pepper into the bowl, set the remaining pepper aside. Next grate ½ of the onion into the bowl, set the remaining half aside.
- With your very clean (of course!) hands, mix the meats, etc. together well, then form 6 patties. Let these rest on a plate while you wash up.
- Thinly slice the remaining half of the bell pepper and the onion.
- Heat the oil in a sauté pan over medium heat – add the sliced mushrooms, onion and bell pepper.
- Cook these on medium heat for about 5 minutes, then reduce heat to medium low and let them cook until the burgers are finished.
- Grill the burgers on your outdoor grill, on a grill pan, on a George Foreman grill, or using a skillet or the broiler – whatever method you prefer to use and/or that fits the current weather.
- Cook burgers until the internal temperature reaches 165 F (because of the turkey – if you only use ground beef, cook to desired doneness).
- While the burgers are cooking, combine the sour cream and the Velveeta in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments, removing and stirring after each, until cheese is fully melted the sauce is combined.
- Serve the hamburgers on your preferred bun, topping with the sautéed onions, peppers and mushrooms and the cheese sauce.
