How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350F
  • Grease and flour an 8 inch loaf pan
  • Cream butter and sugar till fluffy
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla
  • Sift flour with baking powder and salt
  • Alternately add enough milk with the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture to form a thick cake batter
  • Mix the spices into the molasses well
  • Place 1/2 batter in the pan.
  • Drizzle 1/2 of the molasses in a zig zag pattern over the batter.
  • Add the top batter and drizzle the molasses over the top, zig, zag with tingues of a fork if desired.
  • Bake in a 350F until tested done in center with a toothpick ( mine took over 40 minutes )
  • Cool on rack till warm
  • Dust with powder sugar and serve
  • Note: I supposes a white drizzle icing also would go well with this

Such a wonderful loaf! I baked mine the night before so all the flavours could meld together before trying it. It turned out so much better than I imagined! I baked mine in a glass pan for 45 minutes, but it could have easily been done in 40minutes, so check on it early. I found the original ad for this online and they served it with a chocolate frosting dotted with pecans.
