How to make it

  • Place the cold liquids into a heavy duty sauce pot
  • Sift in the cornstarch and baking cocoa over the liquids
  • Whisk well to remove any lumps
  • Then whisk well over medium heat, continue to whisk and mix well until mixture comes to a boil and starts to thicken
  • Immediately remove from heat.
  • Stir in vanilla and mix in the butter
  • At this point one can either place the pudding into a nice serving bowl or dish out into 6-8 dessert glasses
  • Cover top with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming
  • Chill well
  • Top with some cherries if desired and whipped cream or whipped topping before serving
