Like the famous Linzertorte from Austria, this uses a blend of raspberry jam and chocolate chunks to make a wonderful layer under fluffy, nut-studded meringue.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or stick margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal (not instant)
- 1 cup dark high-quality chocolate chunks
- 1 1/2 cup all-fruit raspberry jam
- 4 egg whites
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup finely chopped hazelnuts
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Cream the butter and brown sugar.
- Add egg yolks and salt. Add flour and oatmeal and knead in.
- Pat batter onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until lightly browned.
- Remove from oven.
- While hot, spread with jam and top with chocolate.
- Beat egg whites until soft peaks. Beat in sugar and whip to stiff peaks.
- Fold in nuts.
- Gently spread on top of jam and chocolate.
- Bake 25 minutes.
- Cool completely. Cut into squares or bars.
